Hi,
The EFX-1000 is, in my opinion, the "deepest" effects unit ever produced. I prefer to use effects in the same way that stage makeup is applied: if you can tell it's there, then the makeup artist did a bad job. I honestly think most of the "whiz-bang" stuff is boring. I most frequently use the wah function with character(resonance) near 0 and reverb at maybe 8-o'clock. The jog wheel is set to cut below 200Hz or so, and then I use the Jog mix knob to handle bass cutting. Very musical and manages to cut the bass without sounding like the track is being changed at all. I make a long-tailed reverb by inverting effect order (to Jog->Beat) then sending a reverb-ed sound(using the character knob on most of the job effects to add reverb) into an echo with high feedback. I use the Echo in lots of subtle ways. I like altering hi-hat lines with 1/2,1/4,1/8 with H only, and creating double-time basslines with 1/2 and L only. I occasionally do a feedback loop, but since I don't play much electronically-produced music, tapping BPM isn't very reliable. So, I set the loop length in "two taps" -- one for the beginning and one for the end. Thus, I end up with some extremely low BPM amount but the loops are spot-on every time with no guesswork. |

Oh btw, i have a question regarding the feedback loop effect.
After you hold the feedback loop and stop your player, i believe you should be able to incert additional effect using the jog wheel, such as Zip, Wave, Jet and others (from the right side of the effector). But as soon as i hold my feedback loop, my right side effects does not work. when i get back to my main deck all effects work just fine. what am i missing here ??? Thanks, Jack. |

Jack - try reversing the signal flow switch, chances are right now it's going from JOG > BEAT. If you want the feedback loop to be effected by the Jog effects, switch it to BEAT > JOG.
