And I am sure glad I did - this is how i made alot of money and how you can get paid. Find a night club or local bar that has a 200+ dance floor or people cap. Make sure the walls are tall 16 feet min. Tell the owner you can mix music videos something new and people will love his slow tried spot and he will have a line out the door. You get the door cover or half and he pays for the gaurds. You buy some 8x8 pull down screens $200 each a few used projectors and bring your active speakers and you now are a promoter. I was making $1500 every weekend at half the door. IF I was smart I would of tried to get the entire door. DJs are not paid what we ae worth so bring them 1 free show and after people come the owner will need you. I always did my own flyers and there many places that print 5000 color 4x6 for about $130 shipped. Make your money dont get shorted. Check out my web site I have over 8000 pictures 90% are with Pionner's DVJs the other 10% is CDJ's I go to sleep with Pioneer Pillows
http://www.biggamepartytour.com/sunday.html NFL Super Bowl Party with P Diddy Bad Boy Akon SOurce Mag check me out in the March copy. Its been 3 years but this is the biggest party event weekend for me. You know I am hella happy! We have 6 6500 Lum ROad Runner Projectors on 20 foot screens. Young Joc and Nelly with the Apple Bottom Contest just being there is a blessing. I trid to order the new mixer but with no luck so I will be cool with my 800 and V4. I will post pictures on my site www.clubsac.com THIS IS NO WAY IS A ADD TO SELL TICKETS AS ITS SOLD OUT AT THIS POINT. I am just letting people know its worth the move to video! |

I agree with you HOWEVER I am already seeing the Serato VJ starting to appear. These guys are using video compressed all to hell and are calling themselves VJ's. They are offering to do shows for less than half of what I charge and the owners are starting to at least ask me about it.
They just don't seem to know the difference in quality it seems. Also I have to admit that it's easier to mash-up the videos on the fly with the serato gear that with the DVJ's (yea I bought it but don;t want to go that way) but I just cannot stand the difference in quality. I have to say that if Serato offered MPEG2 natively I might think about it more seriously. I would use a raid configuration and not worry about the file size. I said this before I wished that Pioneer would upgrade the DVJ's so that the cue points were on the call screen, and that the A B C cue buttons were then available for EACH song on the call screen. They would then give us 3 cue points PER SONG vs 3 cue points per DVD. That would make all the difference in being able to match Serato I believe. Especially with existing equipment. Pulse is this something you can ask the engineers about? |

It's not a possibility with this generation of equipment, sorry JA.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that computers and software made DJing more available to the masses (see the "Microwave DJs" article in the back of the January issue of Remix magazine). The fact that almost anyone can be a "DJ" for under $200 really puts the pressure on the REAL DJs who have spent time honing their skills, but what it comes down to is while a Microwave DJ may have the software and the skills to use it, he won't have the ability to read a crowd. You're not a jukebox, you're an experienced professional with not just software but hardware and an extensive (typically 100% legit) music / video library to call upon. Don't be threatened by the n00bs, just show the promoters / venue owners that an experienced DJ is worth the money. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Pulse is right we call them hundred dollar DJs and you get what u pay for. I have had so many people ask me to copy or let them cop my videos HELL to the NO! I have to problem putting a dvd in a dvj knowing the product is going to be fine. Also are we goign to bring 10 terabites to the gig? I have 3 boxes of dvds hundreds I put all the tracks in Excel and use BPM to look them up. Rane is trying but DVJs are still #1 and the look is very nice. I am not haten I just think the output video is better then anything that is compressed. Take a real audio track and a mp3 and play both on studio monitor and you can tell. You take the data also out of the color and you have a sorry looking video. Pixel Mash Ups
