1) The DVJ's don't play HD so what's the point?
2) You can only trigger them if they have a video output and a way of communicating with the fader-start technology. (In other words, no, there is no computer connection for media files.) Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Awesome!
Damn price! Wicked to be able to mix the 4 video sources at once! Some questions with regards to this an Keying: 1) Will you be able to Key more than one layer? - say you've got your Logo White on Black....You key out the Black and everything else below comes thru... - Then you've got a B&W dancing girl....Can you then Key this and then everything below this layer in black comes thru.../ - Then you would have your Music video Can you key that many items? 2) Next question is how can you control which item will be on the top layer? - What if you wanted the Dancing girl layer to be on top and your Logo in the middle layer? 3) Video Resizing / Aspect Ratio Changing. Is it possible to zoom in on your video, or to get it to change the Aspect Ratio of the incoming signal. To try to eliminate those god awful widescreen vs Fullscreen video mixing that's goes on? 4) Will the video "pop" or have a sync issue when you try to flip your source live on the Video Input selector for each channel? IE if I have CH1 Fader up with CH1 Video Trim up and I want to do some jump video edits between sources on the same channel... Will I have Sync issues 5) How is sync handled by the unit. I don't see a Sync input....so is it a Master Sync only? Or does it sync to the incoming video signal on the input ports.....and then can you select via the software which one the VM should clock to? 6) One thing the V4 has that is really, really awesome for video mixing: Transformer buttons. Make that video jump and pop in real time to the music using a button (ends up working like a drum pad)....If not physical then a "soft" touch screen transformer buttons would be great. ****JUST SAW THE TRANS buttons!*** 7) Is there a "holy crap I don't know what's up" but just make it go to this Channel Video in Full mode? It seems like a complex mixer and might scare people from attempting stuff. 8) Are those preview windows big enough? What does the external Video Monitor output give you? 9) No MIDI in? Not allowing any external control from anything? How about if you hook up a controller via USB? Will there be external control allowed? Say your working with a VJ and they could just control the video function via MIDI / OSC. Or Someone is using LIVE / Traktor or Modul8 with it.....Controlling their audio in a seperate environment (laptop / midi controller) and wanting to have the VM video follow. I love the "Sound and Vision Mixer" caption rather and AV!!! K-Tel |

Don't worry, if our dollar keeps going up in value...
It's been a while since I've used it but I think you can only key one source at a time as this is one of the mix effects, but don't quote me on that.
If it's only two then it depends on which layer has the key.
I don't think so but again, don't quote me.
Provided the input for that channel is connected to the sync, it shouldn't, but most people won't be switching the inputs live anyhow. This is another one I haven't personally tested.
Much like the VSW-1, the sync is mastered within the unit and it sends the sync signal to each of the connected players.
Yep, it's got'm on the touchscreen! There's plenty of mix features in there which you can't see in the photos.
It's really not that difficult - think of it like an audio mixer. Take one channel up and ONLY that one channel and that's ALL you will see!
Yes and no. There are a couple of preview option configurations within the mixer. It's probably not big enough to see your detailed on-screen information but it allows you to see the main content. I believe the external monitor output shows the master output, just as a "booth output" has the main audio for an audio mixer.
No, just output. There will be no external control of this unit (AFAIK), the unit is designed to BE the controller, not be controlled! You can use it much like an 800 or 700 is capable of controlling the audio in your fave MIDI capable app. If I recall, the USB is used for firmware updates. I know I didn't accurately answer all of the questions but I haven't had much time on the unit and I'm reading as much as I can from HQ to stay on top of things! More answers will come soon. WOW !!!
I can't wait to put my hands on this new baby. Hey VJ Justin Allen, I think that video sampler is the solution for your logos if I am understanding the layout correctly. Or just hook up you old V4 to on channel and you multiple the inputs this way. Hey Kris_P and Karl, would you let me know when it's sheduled for a demo show here on Toronto? |

1) When you do it this way you are double mixing. Your summed output is being sent to another video mixer, with an overlay placed on top of it. And if you are trying to use images during the mix you cannot with this method. 2) I have 3 DVJ's, 2 camera's, laptop images, and another laptop running promo's. That's 7 inputs. SVM cannot handle that many. 3) Does it work with animated logos and movement or just static images. Guessing right now, but static is my guess. Not an option for a video DJ. 4) not mentioned but I thought I would include. I could run the V-4 INTO the SVM, only using one input. Well, I have 2 V-4's so they would be summed...but let's get past that. The question there would be can the SVM handle A <> B <> C transitions and effects. It would take some creative midi programming to get all 3 images involved in the video mix real time. Now, once again, it's a cool piece. I was just hoping for a little more for $6,000. BUT I am excited to see it in person and play with it for a little bit. |

Somehow, I doubt it. The Canadian market is so small that unfortunately they can't justify the cost of doing an event like that because it wouldn't draw nearly the same crowd.

This is so sweet, but I'm just not used to 19" mixers...one reason why I haven't switched from my 909 to an 800 yet.
