Hello everyone. I am new to these forums and trying to learn how to vj, but dont know what the best route to take is since Im a beginner. Meaning, should i learn to dj first before i learn to vj? Does it even matter where i start? I want to be able to mix music videos if I vj and scratch too. I know what equipment to get if I want to vj, but have no idea what equipment to get for djing. So if anyone can give me some advice Id appreciate it. I know vj equipment is expensive so i want to make the best cost effective choice, if possible. Im extremely confused and dont know where to begin. Thanks.

I think if you can DJ first, you'll have an easier time of it with VJ'ng. Do a search around here for tips and tricks in both formats...

If your set on going into VJ, then get a pair of DVJ-X1's because you can play CDs on them and then eventually do DVDs. Mixer wise, something with the bells and whistles ( and fader start for the future ). A 600, 909, or a 800.

You'll need a set of Headphones ( HDJ-1000 )
Amp or Powered Speakers if your playing out at gigs. If not and just practicing then headphones and a couple of small monitors for the bedroom.

Start with the players and mixer and cans and lots of music and practice and your on your way.....

Just read thraed the various forums here and see what other DJs are doing.. Good Luck!

You'll need an audio mixer as well, DJM400 maybe?

Do you really wanna drop that kinda cash?
Learn to DJ first.
Check out the CDJ-800s
The transition to the DVJ will be easy.
If you do have the cash get into a DJM-800 as it will integrate into your A/V setup once
your ready to step up to that

Learn without spending tons of cash....
then swap DVJs for the CDJs,
add a V4 (works with your DJM-800) and then a projector.

DJ_KTEL is right. I think that thats the best idea. Or maybe even take dj'in lessons or use a friends etc. I wouldn't go with the DVJ's if I was just starting out and had no idea about DJ'ing

I think you are right K. So then to dj I need a CDJ, a mixer and headphones? Is that all? Whats the difference between the CDJ-1000 MK3 and the CDJ 800? Please recommend on what equipment I need. Thank you very much.

You will need two home/bedroom monitors to hear out what you are playing, and also this will teach you to be a little bit more independent from the headphones so that you can interact with the crowd a little more when you start playing outWink
