Alright dudes. I am starting to take an interest in DVJing and need to ask you guys a few questions. Currently i use my cdj 1000s with an 800 & efx 1000.

If i get dvjs, i want to use my own footage & scenes from films.

Ok, so i would need to make & sync up a video to a tune beforehand. If i wanted to make a new video for that tune, would i have to make up a new dvdr disc?
If so, then surely it would be more practical & less time consuming to have a latptop dedicated for the visuals. That way you can load any clip/visual for any track instantly, saving time & money on dvdr discs.

You wouldn't necessarily need to make a new disc (syncing A/V) you could simply do a remix "on the fly".

But yes, it's easier to re-burn a new DVD.

DVDs are cheap. If you're going to invest in a DVJ, you shouldn't complain about the price of the media. Wink

Thanks for your reply Pulse Smiler

I have looked into going down the DVJ route but don't think it's for me. You need to sync beforehand & use new discs for new video etc. I don't need to scratch audio & video together either.

If i buy a laptop for the visuals, then i could be a bit more spontaneous and link any video to a tune any given time.
My 800 is midi so i can use that to control visual software (& maybe buy another midi controller too).

This also seems to be a more affordable way to get into Vjing.

Its a nice thought to be able to use my own visusals in sets. I can get more intimate with the crowd.
But i kinda feel getting into Vjing would be very time consuming & i already seem to have a full time job collecting my precious music, taking piano lessons & learning to produce.

Maybe in a club situation its more fulfilling to have dedictaed Djs & Vjs; they can feed off eachother. I don't know if a DJ can do both jobs well enough simutainously without letting standards slip.

What are everyones' opinion?

I think a lot of DJs are now dedicating themselves to being VJs and playing all media on video. I know some guys are just doing their usual routines, but it's a visual show not just audio. While some guys are doing all the tricks and mashs they can, it's really a club thing or show thing to be tricky.

The future is dvd and other platforms, but the visual is here and getting bigger so I think it's a worth while investment to get on it now...

You can actually rip the video and add Serato timecode to the visual. This way you can always use the visual to any song you want.
Do a Google search on the following:
"NEW Pioneer DVJ-1000 Serato Scratch LIVE demo"

The first Youtube link you get will explain it.

The only problem with that is you could wind up using the same visual repeatedly and there's no correlation between the audio and the video.

exacatly pulse...

i think it's kinda dumb to show visual images that aren't related to your music.

You may spend just as much time on creating your visual content for your laptop, that is arranged and sorted and associated with the music your actually going to play.

And in order to do a professional job of it.....it's a lot of work to try to drive the two.
