I am a new to the DVJ Video Djing world. I would like to simply make a back up DVD to use in my DVJ 1000. I dont want to ruin my master DVD disc.

I have read the forums tried Dj Exstractor, Virtual Dj DVD Ripper. I am able to burn these VOB/MPEG music videos to my hard drive. I can also see them and play them fine in Virtual DJ.

My problem is when I try to burn these same VOB/Mpeg video files to a blank DVD disc to use in the DVJ 1000. I get a an error message "Not Video Format"
I AM A PC USER USING WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2

Please help me with these questions.

What PC, DVD software program is "EASY" to use to simply make a back up DVD of my Promo Hot Hits to use in my DVJ 1000?

Thanks,
Jeff

Most disc to disc copy programs will do this for you. But you will need to use DVD +/- DL discs and a DVD drive capable of buring Dual Layer (DL) DVDs. I recommend Verbatim DVD+R D/L discs.

Sounds to me like you're burning the VOB files themselves rather than mastering the DVD as a movie.

Get Nero and DVD Shrink
Then using DVD Shrink insert the dvd. Shrink will rip the dvd to the harddrive and then automatically open up Nero to commence burning. Just pop in a DVD-R and it'll do the rest.

I am not sure of the legality of this. Neither have I tried it myself but I know Shrink does copy DVDs. I think the latest version is 7.

I'm gonna be blunt. Screw the legalities of it.

If you've invested hundreds...nay, THOUSANDS of dollars into a collection, it would be idiotic to NOT back it up. I'd be leaving the originals at home and taking the copies out. I would hate to lose a binder full of originals have to go out and buy them all again.

Personally I use DVDDECRYPTER rip the individual vobs and make a compilation since I don't use 90% of the videos each month AND I want to protect the originals (wear and tear + sticky fingers). I use Tsunami's DVD Creator and just master a DVD with multiple tracks and use the track buttons on the X1s/1000s to cue them up, no big deal and NO wasted time recompressing stuff!

I couldn't agree with you more Darknez. I was always do it with all my DVDs and CDs - just covering my own ass though!

I don't know about DVD Decrypter but Shrink first rips the files to the harddrive and then burns to disc. It burns all the menus also which is very helpful. It is also fantastic at decoding discs which are designed to stop people from backing up the disc.

Personally I do NOT like menus. I prefer my DVDs to queue up just like any compilation cd I have and be able to jump to the track I want quickly. Having to navigate menus during a gig is something I reaaaalllly hate.

I find that they menus on Promo DVD's are great; by default they cue to the first track, but if you hit Menu then you can access a nice little "quick-access" menu to go to the various sections on the DVD (at least on Hot Video - like "Dance" "Hip Hop" etc.)

Then again, maybe I only like that because the DVD players I use SUCK and can't skip tracks faster than about one every half second.

For just making copies of DVD I'm using a standalone duplicator...this one:

It does single layer and dual layer copies with no problems...well for me.

If I'm making a compilation, it's ripping the tracks with DVD SHRINK and then burning with Sony DVD Architect.

Have Fun!
