I use Adobe Premier Pro CS3. Cons, it isn't Final Cut, but works damn good for everything I need. Encore is available for your DVD authoring, but isn't the most user friendly program to do so.

Isn't there a Final Cut Express version.

I know imovie is kind of frustrating.

But there is the "lite" version of Final Cut.
Also see if you know any students to get the educational price.

Also check on eBay for older version of FCP (like version #1) that folks are selling.

I've been using this little freebie for a couple of years and love it. Give it a try, http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=131273

This is a freeware, and it's relatively unstable, especially if you're using something older than a G5, so remember to save often, but if you're looking to get off cheap, and you want something that works better than iMovie, this is it!

Final Cut is used by TONS of editors. A lot of the content you see on TV was done in Final Cut actually. It does have a learing curve with it and is not an easy app to learn overnight. There are tons of training programs and classes available. If you are looking for something quick I would use Express.

Here is some content I created:

Video Portfolio

most were heavy in LiveType. This is a TV spot I did solely using the Final Cut collection:

If you're asking about the Hyper Engine software that I posted previously, it's just like all the others, but it's FREE. It does very good timestreching of both audio and video, and while it's certainly not as advanced as Final Cut, it is good enough to get you around on the basics.

If you'd like to see some stuff I edited with it, check out my myspace page. myspace.com/djchrismo
