Hi I was just wondering what you guys think about the videos your using. Do you think most Hip Hop Videos we receive from videos service, are to explicit for weddings & School Dances. I know it's cool for clubs but sometimes I feel some videos are a bit out there. Sometimes we can't use the video just the audio. What do you guys do during your shows for weddings or school dances. Do you just play them as is? I'm Just wondering what other people think or are doing.
Thanks

Yea, I think that a lot of the popular videos are too explicit for most conservative eyes, ie: "candy shop", or "these boots are made for walking" (but isn't she one piece of a$$!). Just like regular music, I always prescreen the videos I'm playing and try to cover up the overly explicit sections of the video with live footage,an ambient, or, I start scratching a phat movement section the next video I'm about to drop without the audio, it makes people check out your screens more.

Yeah alot of the videos are visual explicit for some crowds. I just use my video reels that I create. They show my logo, company name and various other things. Works well and no one seems to mind at all.

Check with VMS Media. Everything put out is FCC Clean! I hope that is clean enough.

MTV & BET and the radio is FCC clean too. But that doesn't mean it's appropriate at all schools and events.

i don't envy the decisions you guys have to make when playing to sensitive audiences. as a club only VJ i throw EVERYTHING at my crowd. hell there's one bootleg video of Benny Benassi "Satisfaction" that has a buncha porn spliced in with it. back in 2003 i used to play that weekly and the crowd would literally got NUTS (haha pun) during this money shot at the end.

fun times

Yeah Rivetbutt it can be tough sometimes. It varies from venue to venue. But overall the verage has gotten closer to PG-13.

Luckily the video subscription companies will have symbols to show you what content has questionable audio or visual content.

You figure, when you're at a school dance, (assuming it's a highschool dance) the kids know the songs from watching the videos on tv, and you're playing the same videos. So I can't see any harm being done. Weddings are another story. Just one question tho. School dances and weddings are a mobile dj type thing. Who carries DVJ's, projectors (or televisions), and screens as a mobile rig? Not many.

Actually, even though we know most of the kids see the same videos at home on the various music stations, the schools can still come under fire because of the same content. Remember, it's not the schools job or position to expose the kids to the content. The same parent that has no clue what their child is exposed to at home, will be the same parent that will want to sue the school board for exposing their child to the material. They have to be very careful. Each school will vary on what they will allow. The best thing to do is play it safe and feel them out. The day you assume what's ok could cost you in the long run.

As far as who caries projectors, dvd's, and screens to a mobile rig?....Alot! Mobile video systems have been around for over 15 years at least.

As a new VJ, I'm just resurrecting this thread to see if anything has changed in your area.

I wanted to VJ at some school functions, weddings and mitzvahs, but the content on these newer videos are questionable.
