Here's a thread where us VJs or DVDJs can post our video mixes. Maybe the mods can make this a sticky.

Anyway, I'll start things off with a quick 90s R&B video mix. A simple, yet effective mix that I use to warm things up at the club. I like the first three songs as they sample the same beat. No post-production whatsoever, just straight mixing.

Nice mix Gene!

I think you didn't hook up your sync cables from the DVJ to the switcher, however. Did you? I see some flickering when you switch A/B, that's why I ask. Another thing I noticed was that the audio came through sooner than Monetel's singing in that video.

Did you overlay your logo using the V-4 or did you put it on when you did your video edits?

Also, the $500 question: what did you use to record this?

Alright, I hadn't watched all the way through and just have 1 point on the mix. The transition from return to this is how was a little low??? I thought if the line " This is how we do it came in on the last scratch from Return, it may sound better.

The whole mix rocks and I know you said it was a quick mix, but just my take on the mix over on those 2 tracks.....

@Jay, you're certainly right. I usually scratch that "This is how..." intro in before the first down beat at the club, but this time I didn't do it. Don't know why, maybe the mood was different.
-----------
@Hardy: Thanks for compliment.
The sync cables were not hooked up to the DVJ from the switcher. Does that really make a difference w/ video sync and flicker free switching? I'll try it tonight. Some of Montel's audio may not be synching because I premixed that video, or it could be the sync cable (or lack thereof).

No V4 at all, the logo overlay was done in preproduction when I premix the videos. The only thing done post-production was the "DJ G-FUNK" text on the upper right hand corner when I sent it to my video editor for AVI to MPG compression.

The $500 (less $401) answer is: Pinnacle Studio Plus. I use Pinnacle for compression and simple edits (if I have to) All other multi A/V track work is done in Adobe Premiere.
-----------
Once I get the sync cables in tonight, I'm gonna record two more short mixes (youtube has a size limit). The first one is a newer R&B inspired by my younger son. The second is an 80s mix, inspired by my wife. Again, no post production, just live mixing. I'm trying put clips together for my Promo Package DVD.

Thanks for the info...I was asking as I've been recording my video sets using a simple consumer DVD Recorder to record my stuff with great results. I've heard, however, that most people don't recomment recording video sets in analogue like that.

Also, the sync cables will make a clear difference when you switch the videos. You can tell in this mix that they're not hooked up because they "flicker", so to speak. But, its seamless switches once you do hook it up and it'll look much better when you scratch with the fader starts on too.

I'm waiting to check out the new mixes. I'll post some of mine in the next couple of weeks, just haven't had time to rip anything on my computer yet.

Try using Google Videos. Pretty sure there's no size limit...

Okay, so I plugged in the sync cables from the DVJ to the VSW, the a/b switches are better and less flicker... There's still a little jump, but not as much. I think I'll use use the VSW for live performances and my V4 for recording.

The A/V sync issue that Hardy pointed out was the capture settings on my computer. It was set to MPEG (I forgot what compression), but now it's set at DV AVI and synching is better.

Anyway, I finished two 20-minute mixes and youtube rejected them both due to the length of the video. I'm shooting it to google video right now. It's 4:19am, time to get some sleep.

Here's one of them, the other one is awaiting verification from Google. The first track is more disco than 80s, but oh well. Enjoy!

DJ G-Funk: 80s Pop Video Mix (20:52)

Oh, this isn't a DVJ routine like 2ndNature, it's just good ol' beat-to-beat kinda stuff. With more practice (and figuring out this VJ gear) I'll be able to do something as good as his.

My two sons are Chris Brown, NEYO and Usher fans. So this mix was inspired by songs they have me playing ALL THE TIME in the car.

Nice mixes GFunk. I hope i can record my mixes soon too. =)

Anyways, you guys are lucky in the States, you can buy DVDs with remixed videos and extended version, we in Europe can only get Radio Edits and crappy tracks :/

heh

Thanks for the compliment.

Not all of my extended versions and premixes are bought, they were made on my PC.
A lot of work, but a real payoff in the end as people won't be able to catch
my vids on MTV or VH1. Therefore, making my show more unique.

Same here...I think that it sets you apart from those who just buy the DVD and put it to use right away.

Anyway, nice mixes Gene!
