Well....I've attempted to scratch a few years ago and could never grasp it. However, just a few days ago I decided to toy around with scratching once again and this time using my left hand (I'm right handed) to manipulate the platter (CDJ-800) and my right hand to manipulate the fader (DJM-3000). I also reversed the fader...it's finally starting to come together!
Yea okay...so I'm a lil excited. Hell, I started out DJing back in 1986 and only now have finally started to get more of the basics down. So, I whipped out the iKey Plus and I recorded myself. It's a 12 minute session, but will spare you all through this rookie's work. I cut out most of it and will provide a link within this thread. I have taken up what most of the other DJs have told me...."record yourself, so you can hear your mistakes and your good points to better improve your skills." So, again, I did just that and, to me, I actually didn't do so bad. Let me know what you other DJs (scratchers) think. It's a basic scratch, I think. I'm trying to get faster with the fader, but dayum...my wrist and fingers got sore. I can't quite grasp the crab just yet. I know there are some DJs on here who have scratching mastered so it will be great to hear from you all. Don't worry...this rookie has put on my flak jacket and kevlar helmet to take the heat. Here's the second cut at it. A few boogers in this one as well...but it's all still just practice.
