hi there, i have been mixing for about 8 months now.i started with a hercules dj console mk2, which is a pc mixer with bundled virtual dj software, and mastered how a mix should sound. i am aware that it is a lot easier to mix on a pc than it is on cd decks and vinyl.the style i play is mainly trance but i do like house music aswell. i recently bought some cdj1000 mk3's and a djm-800. i am just going to list the steps that i take when preparing each track to get ready to mix:
1.i set the tempo of the next track in the same bpm as the track that is being played. 2.i then set a cue for the track that i will be mixing into. i usualy like setting this at 64 beats before the intro gets going, but not every time. 3.when the cue has been set i then listen to the two tracks 'in beat' in my headphones to adjust the tempo of the new track to match the tempo of the playing track. 4. i then adjust the trim of the next track to match as closely as possible, to make for a smoother mix. 5.i then wait for the point i wish to begin mixing the next track. when that point comes, i press play to start the next track and pitch bend until the beats are alligned, then when the time is right , begin to bring in the volume of the next track and adjust the equilizer to make the mix sound smooth. i was just writing these steps to get some opinions from you guys who are more experienced than i am. any words of advice and more steps i could use would be appreciated. thanks! Gazza, what's your point???
#1 cdjs are piece of cake to mix on and the only reason I can see why it's more difficult for you to mix on them vs pc is because on a pc you can preset your bpms exactly. #2 I'm a trance dj, so again - what do you need help with? |

gazza man i'm guessing you haven't mixed all that long??
One thing you need to know is every mix is different? Spice it up a bit try different ways of bringing in and out tracks, it's what will make you stand out from the rest. Honestly there is no set way, every dj is different and experimenting to find your own preferred/unique way of mixing is your best option. |
