Does anyone know if there is a mixer out there similar to the DJM600 but with Optical outputs for connecting to my PC's Optical audio inputs?
Almost every piece of electronecs I have has them (PS2, DVR, Stereo Receiver) but I can't seem to find a so called "Professional" mixer with them. |

Off the top of my head, no, there are none. SPDIF is available for digital out, but not optical. You'd need a studio board for that.

Even studio boards don't have optical to my knowledge. Perhaps some of the really high end ones, but it's not an accepted standard in the "Pro" world - that's why there's ADAT, SPDIF, TOSLINK, and a host of others that do the job just as well.

just get a coax spdif to optical or toslink converter. it'll cost you at most like $30.

.paaz with the good info.
Forgot TOSLINK was optical. My bad. Again, no DJ boards that I know of, you have to look pretty hard for a studio board that does. -r- |

why not get a adc? i believe the behringer deq2496 handles adc as well as dac, it's an unbelievable eq unit that sounds like items four times its price, and it has those gorgeous sharc's in it
that way you can use whatever mixer takes your fancy you could get yourself a cheaper adc but there isn't better value for money out there in the pro audio world coz you get so much more then just an adc/dac unit. any naysayers to behringer, you should try it out before you rag it. it really is sensational. |

thanks for the info...I will have to look into those options. I really like the DJM600, so it looks like i will need a analog/digital converter of some sort. The Behringer Sean mentioned sounds promising. But, if its too expensive maybe I'll just go with the SPDIF adapter

Erm... I've used the behr in a live situation, quite a bit (like 9 weeks solid). It does OKAY, and you certainly can't beat it for the money. But is it a great sounding EQ? Not really. But then, I'm used to Ashly, so...

well there's a huge difference between an ashley and a behringer, different leagues completely in performance and price. behringer isnt a digital back end with a class A front end

Quote: Steele, is Ashly the best when it comes to Equalizers, Crossovers, Compressor/Limiters? Is it also a good idea to buy a Compressor/Limiter with a built in Equalizer? |

The best? I dunno about that. But they're a damn sight better than what most people are used to.
In general, getting a full processor system works just fine. Me, I REQUIRE the use of separate EQ and comp/limiter, because first of all, the manufacturer I like for EQ makes crappy comp/limiters IMHO. That, and the fact that I need quick access to things, individual controls for everything. I just prefer it. If you don't need separate gear, maybe finding an all-in-one is the thing for you. I just don't like it for me. -r- |

well the best can run in to the many multiples of thousands. are you talking about using them in a studio or a mobile rig and how much space do you want to take up and how much do you want to spend etc etc etc

Let's put it this way: right now, Ashly is my EQ of choice on the road. It is the most amazing sounding EQ I've heard.
Compressor/Limiter, the ones I like these days are Drawmer. Totally transparent sound. Crossovers, dbx does a damn fine job. That's that for now. Are they the best? I don't know. But they're damn good and better than most people ever bother to buy (most people "settle", while it's not really settling since it's pretty good, for dbx on both EQ and comp/lim). -r- |
