just wondering do you guys have any experience traveling with gear. i am going on a trip and will be taking one of my cdjs on the plane. whats better the hard case like a road runner or a the bag made by pro dj gear or whatever that company is. never traveled with mine and just wondering what the better option is.

Take a look at Pelican cases - they're not for leaving your gear in at the gig but they seem to be the choice for travelling DJs these days...

Hard-sided flight case.

You don't mention what CDJ your taking with you. If it's a big one (an 800 or 1000) you MIGHT end up having to check it. Which means it'll get destroyed if it's in a soft-sided case.

For transporting all my cables, extension leads, clamps, spare items etc. I got myself one of these....

Its not exactly ideal for cdjs and the likes but brilliant for other stuff. Easy to lock it too.

Good idea. I transported my gear by Fedex (MD to Chicago) in my Road Ready flight case. It came back with everything destroyed. It really looked like intentional damage because I always pack it carefully.

CMX 3000 and DJM 3000 which I've had for a little over 3 years.

Now I have to replace it - should I remain with the 3000 family or should I explore the CDJ 400's/MEP 7000?

Pelican is the way to go if you tour using commercial carriers or airlines.

UDJ makes CDJ semi-hard cases that can fit in the over head of most aircraft. When taking a mixer I will put the mixer inside a 12in mixer case and stick it wrapped around towels inside my checked luggage.

I've also purchased a Rubbermaid storage tub that I have lined with towels and foam for both my CDJ and DJM's...it's cheap but it works.

Always bring the basic inter-connects and adapters.


At some airports throughout the world if you are kind to the security people that check your bags they will at least attempt to read the FRAGILE or THIS WAY UP sticker.
