im only new to djing and get the concept of beat matching but i am having trouble with cueing?

i grab 2 tracks with the same bpm.
play one while cueing the other.
then as i play the cued one i tap the beat on the button.... hit play on the beat but it is all out of wack... is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

To start off try beat matching the same song.
When song A is playing cue the next song at the beginning of the first mesure (4 beat loop)
then make sure you have the bpm in sync.

Try to match like this : (2 Bars of 4 beat loops)

1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3,4 Song A (BPM 130)
1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3,4 Song B (BPM 130)

Bad method of matching loops :

1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3,4 Song A (BPM 130)
2,3,4,1 / 2,3,4,1 Song B (BPM 130)

Try to match bass beats to start off.
Don't forget to use the pitch bend (cdj platter)
to make your mixes tight.

Look on youtube for beat matching lessons.

Trooper i don't think he's on about that like he said he gets beatmatching but has trouble with cueing

just because something has the same BPM on your counter doesn't mean you won't have to adjust it like one could be 128.49 and the other 128.01. it's hard to drop a track exactly on top of the other. what i do is either set my cue point then be tapping the cue constantly till it's time to drop it and then tap it one final time but hold it down and press the play button with it. OR i set my cue point and just record it to one of the hot cues and constantly hit it till i want to drop it.

you WILL burn out your cue/play buttons this way. this is the biggest problem i encounter with cdj's that are installed in clubs.

if you are doing the right phasing
you just have to adjust and you will be fine,
if the beatcounter says the same in the two tracks, doesnt mean you wont have to adjust as noc2u2 said, i dont recomend the cdjs with that cue/play buttons :S well at least i dont like them, that hot cue stuff can be useful if you get this cdjs

If you're not catching it right, learn to use the pitch bend on the jog dial. That's what it's there for.

put a big piece of black tape over any kind of BPM counter and learn by ear FIRST.'
don't get too lazy at first, train your ear and your brain!!!

I think it's more of a "you could" rather than a "you WILL".

Heavy handed DJs always wreck gear faster.

Yeah, I use the cue button ALOT on my CDJ-100's and they're still going strong. Been almost 3.5 years. The 1000's too.

The 200's...eh, not so much.

you can start the song at the start of the beat - if you can't, that's just temporary - comes with practice

that is one of the small things that separates the 'i'm still learning' and 'i'm a dj' states

i saw that happen to many djs around here - it's the way you cue your track: you put the sound on your headphones, vinyl mode and jog the dial: at the beginning of the sound you press cue - never wonder why this can be deceiving ?

that's why there is a cdj mode there: you do the same thing as above (cue your track by hand in vinyl mode) then hit the cdj-mode... go back and forth with your SEARCH keys and look for the beginning of the SOUND (not the beat) - by sound i mean: there is a heavy sound (where it seems the beat is starting) but usually if you press SEARCH 2 times back there is a tiny bit of sound...

that's the way the AUTOCUE functions for the cdjs - they cue right before that tiny bit of sound - just put a cd with a steady beat at the beginning and try to see what i'm talking about

if you get used to perfectly cue all the time, then you get used to start always in the same way and you'll get used to drop the beat at the same time

this is an art, right ? let's get it just perfect...
