Hey! I'm a new DJ and I have SO many questions.... When i listen to music by DJs i hear that the beginning of a sentence, for example, the word, dance, is stuttered in 4/4 time but the instrumentals stay the same... how do they do this???

It's built into the song by the producer. You'll also notice that the lyric will always be stuttered an exact number of times - usually a multiple of 4 - so that it can stay in time with the underlying 4/4 beat. Keep in mind that most DJ's play "club versions" of stuff that the general public has a hard time acquiring, so while it seems like the DJ did it, most often it's just the extended club version that was put out by the producer and it's still built in.
If a DJ does it where it wasn't there before, they're applying the same principle, just in a live format. -r- |
