Hi, I'm Dejan, AKA DJ Burek. Over the last year and a half or so i've really begun getting into the club/DJ scene. I live in a small town in a small country where House/Trance/Insert electro genre here are just beginning to blossom. The reason why i wanna start DJ-ing is simple. I love the music and i love the feeling. I have to insert a short story here now so you understand a bit better: A few nights ago I was at a club with a lot (60+) friends and the DJ was playing old music, nobody was dancing and the night was beginning to look like a failure. I came up to the DJ and asked to play a CD i had on me. The first track was a short clip (2 min) of Kalwi & Remi's Explosion with a deep voice intro (me + Audacity software) announcing something to the effect of DJ Burek - Explosion etc. The whole crowd jumped up and started dancing and the people who know i go by Burek (15 or so of them) quickly spread the word that i was the one "playing" the current music. I loved THAT feeling, people enjoying themselves to MY music after slowly drifting into a stupor to a sucky DJ's mindnumbing, repetitive tracks. The night was a great success as i had a few more cds on me with pretty good music on them. Later on the DJ thanked me personally, i felt very...hmm...proud of that little gesture and so on. Smiler So, back on track of the original post: this is why i wanna be a DJ, I wanna experience that feeling again! And again, and again! This is where the forums and you guys come in. I don't have any gear and very little experience. I have most of the production/beatmaking/remixing software out there and i can handle myself pretty well with it. I also understand most of the terminology and can handle the hardware aspect ok. I also have a fairly extensive knowledge of the music i would play. So. Onward! What i was thinking was buying a tiny bit of gear and starting practising in my padded basement. I was thinking of 2x CDJ200 + DJM400 + a pair of HDJ1000 cans + speakers. The speakers i need a bit of help with as I'm currently using my 5.1 surround home entertainment setup plugged into my soundcard. I have come to understand that JBL is something of a good major brand so i guess id go with something of theirs. Again, feel free to suggest any other alternative. So, i think your eyes hurt enough by now so ill give it a rest. Please give any feedback on possible gear, things i need to know about DJ-ing in general, playing in clubs etc. Thanks ahead for any advice/info/knowledge provided Smiler P.S. sorry for the terrible spelling, I'm sleepy.

sorry to rain on your parade here, buddy, but djing is not all about the "feeling" and fame.

It is love for the music, LOTS of practice and HARD work. People get into DJing for different reasons, but i am willing to bet that half of them think that this will make them alot of money and get them laid... But once they realize that before they achieve anything they have to put alot of effort into it, they drop it and move onto the next best thing that will make them money and get them laid Smiler

So good luck to you. If you are in it for the right reasons you will make it.

CDJ-200's and DJM-400 are a perfect set for a beginner. AS far as speakers go, i would recommend a pair of powered KRK's. They are not expensive, sound great and you can totally play house parties with those.

Powered speakers mean you do not need a powered amp - they have a built-in amplifier for each speaker.

NO AMP.
KRK's are solid.
