very well my friends. my name is joe louie, and i've just begun mixing. i use cdjs 200 and the djm 400.
i would like for someone to give me some tips on extending a break, and dropping the bass. whats the best sound effect to use for this.? i've tried the roll, but its difficult. i like to mix elektro house, and minimal. i just cant quite get the build up and break right. |

The effect I make most use of is echo, especially on minimal where you want something that tails off subtley rather than making any sudden changes.
Here's one little trick for you. Assign to the crossfader rather than the channel (if you can on the 400, I hope you can). You can then echo a cut. Eg, the playing track is on the A side of the crossfader; assign Echo to the B side, switch fx on, and do little cuts over, especially at 3/4, 1/1 or 2/1. But normally that's just to add some extra nuggets during the evolving part of a minimal track. I tend to let breakdowns and bass drops alone, especially on electro where they're usually effected to hell anyway. |
