I guess I'll explain what I'm looking for first.
I'm looking some something easy to transport. Something mobile. But something that can be used in larger social gatherings than just a house party. I do own some Numark tables and a mixer that I played around with for a year or so after I took a break from drums (playing for ABOUT.. 15 years). But nothing took off with the tables since I wasn't buying records for them. However, I've been playing with Abelton live making my own beats and songs for the hell of it. I was at a Guitar Center the other week when I decided to look in room with the DJ equipment and saw that B-52 Prodigy. I messed with it for a little and seemed to like it. So, is that a good item to start off with? I'm looking to do some mash-ups and mixing. I do enjoy scratching a lot, but that B-52 seemed a little tough on it. However, I'm not one to scratch a ton. Usually just mix. I did notice the Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3/DJM-800 Package on MusiciansFriend. But it's pricey. So, what should I be looking into? THANKS! |

Easy to transport but can be used in large gatherings. You mention scratching as well.
I'd say go with a pair of 800's with any flavor of DJM mixer. If you don't need a lot of fancy stuff, you can go as simple as a DJM-400. If needed, you can move up to the 600, 700, etc. Lots of cases are available. Friend of mine has a RoadReady case with wheels on it, which makes it REALLY easy to transport. |

based on what you say- limited scratching, liking the basics of the prodigy, 1000's/800 seems pricey (it is).
IMO try the cdj400s, with whatever new or used pioneer mixer in between you can afford. (i got my djm3000 on ebay a few months ago, 320.00 american, and it's working beautifully.) I would recommend not going with the djm 400 as it cant run 3 channels simultaneous, something essential if you are incorporating the computer. Then just get any midi controller you want for the ableton, and a straight midi controller will be a couple hundred, instead of the 1500 for the djm800 or those rediculously priced allenheath units. |
