(hope this dosen't break any rules, just thought this was some interting technology -- if this post violates any rules please delete)
This thing looks kinda fun, would be curious how it actually feels.. Kind of like an iPod on crack around $900. I don't see pros using something like this, they say it compliments a DJ system. Hey DJ from the can for those long weddings! <SNIP> Links below, yes - edited links to the product site, no. </SNIP> YouTube Demo Wikipedia Entry Good Video from Gizmodo Would love a hands on demo... Mac & PC compatible. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Pulse, |

Interesting but I wouldn't want to go and see a top-name DJ on stage with that. I'd go up and strangle him with the headphone cord.

This is for those people (or club owners) that say, "I don't need a DJ, I have a loaded iPod that my buddy filled for me".

So guys, what was the last word on this? Any good at all? David, did you end up getting it? Pulse, I think I read somewhere that you have it (?!?!)...
Anyway, it sounds perfect for those summer wine tours in my van with the honeyz! I'm considering the older 120 gigger coz I'm seeing a lot of issues with the newer 60 gig version running the newer firmware with BPM and all those other new features that are useless to me coz I wanna mix old school in the Scoobie Mobile! Let a bruver know. Price has apparently come down a ton. |

Jay and I had units on loan from Tonium to test with the MEP -- I was able to play around with it both with the Pioneer players and on its own and I've got to say it's pretty cool. It's more than just an "iPod on steroids", the Pacemaker is a perfect backup "system" and can even be used as a stand-alone setup for a remote system (like for music for a wedding ceremony).
The new firmware is much better and with the lower prices, you'd better believe they're a great addition to a traditional setup, and with the ability to use it as a "smart hard drive" with the Pioneer decks, why not? Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Ya it is cool. I have to wipe mine and load up my own tracks for gigs and use it with the MEP, or 900!!

In the Pioneer CDJ 2000 demo videos online, I have seen at least well-known DJs have it in the background, as they were demo'ing the CDJs.
I think for mobile DJs, it may be worth looking into, especially for dinner music, cocktail hours, or ceremonies. |

When it comes to background dinner music, no mixing should be required. I mean, honestly, if you've got stuff to do to, you could probably set up iTunes or Media Monkey to go though a playlist.
It's background music. It's not meant to be heard, just something to barely notice. |

Actually, I kinda disagree with that statement and Jay will likely be with me ... quite often I meet with the bride and groom to discuss what kind of music they're into and I'll play that during cocktails / dinner rather than the standard fare of jazz or mellow crap. It sets the mood and sometimes I'll even announce that we're listening to some of the b&g's favourite songs and the family and friends can really get into it.

Oh, well, sure, if they've got some sort of special requests for the dinner music, then ok. But for standard fare, something like what I describe would probably be ok. Maybe I was just cheating like that

Ya, I think the easiest way to stand out as a Mobile DJ at a wedding is by NOT playing the background "traditional" jazzy faire. I mix, program and select, all my dinner tracks while it's going on. This past Saturday night my dinner selection was from a meeting thought I had about playing old school slow jams and the B&G loved it! I probably had 10 people come up during the meal and rave on about the tracks I was playing-
PM Dawn- I'D die without you Color Me Bad- Mi A'more Force MDs- Tender Love Janet Jackson- Come back to me KC & JoJo- All my Life etc......... For what it's worth here; I never eat at weddings and alwasy sell myself on that point to a B&G. I tell them NOT to pay for an added guest by buying me a meal, and that I am watching the group and seeing where they are going during the dinner so that I can react to the flow and get in front of things before they get boring... Always makes me stand out to a couple because they see that I am focused on THEM and not my need to eat chicken for the 1800th time. It's just what I do as a mobile wedding DJ who get's on average 250-300 an hour for my time..... P.S. the crowd Saturday was getting into my slow jam set, so at the end of dinner before the toasts I dropped Pebbles- My Mercedes Boy and got most tapping and bobbing!!!!!!! I agree with both Jay and Pulse. I always ask the B&G if they would rather hear a list of their favorite slow/mellow jams rather than Jazz or piano music.
Most think it's a great idea! Others however want the Jazz & piano stuff to give a classy atmosphere during dinner. I'll play whatever they want, sometimes I get a bridezilla that won't take my suggestions and scoff at any idea that I might have to individualize their wedding music experience. Most brides (thankfully!) allow me full creative control (based on our meetings, their tastes, etc). DJ RuDe |
