I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Mackie S218 (18" Passive Subs). One of my setup is made up two Mackie 1521s with active subs but both subs died and since I own a QSC 2450 amp, I figured I could find a light weight not too expensive subs to go with that setup until I get an active one. The Mackie S218 looks like it will do for the weight, size and price. I have not however heard it before and Best buy don't carry it any longer. Thank for you in advance.
PS I am open to other sub suggestions. Thanks. |

Any pro audio equipment that Best Buy carries is hardly "pro audio". Do you not have any DJ / music / sound shops in town?

Hello Pulse. Long time. Actually I am not going to buy it from BB, I was just saying they did not have the MAckie S218s on display for me to hear it. I am looking to complement my Mackie 1521s (older powered units) with a passive sub since I have an extra QSC 2540 that is not paired.

I know a lot of DJs that love Mackies, I personally don't, but if you have good luck with them then go for it.
I would call Audio Rental comapnies and see if any of them use the subs and what they have found is their experience with them? Pioneer National Trainer & Product Specialist |

Good idea. BTW, the 1521s are fantastic. Espercially given their weight and size.

I've just ordered a new set of QSC HPR 181i x2 and HPR 153i x2 to compliment my new PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 digital desk for live sound & reinforcement.
I tested them on a Pioneer system before making the decision... lets just say, OMFG!!! DAAAYYUUUMMM these sound bada$$!! $5 G's of sound never sounded better!! I've been hearing a lot about Yorkville too, what is your humble opinion on either of these brands and the models I have mentioned? DJ RuDe |

I think i heard it from the O.C. when you were testing them out lol. WOW!! that setup is my choice if I had all the money and strength in the world.I have two Hpr152's and i just ordered one 181.The only downside is the weight but the sound quality of the Hpr series is hands down the best i've heard.

There was used QSC 151s at GC for sale for like $647 each. I thought about it a minute and decided against it. I took a listened but was not impressed. Although the sales guy had an IPOD connected directly to it and nothing else. BTW, Pulse I ment to write GC not BB in my intial post.

The old Mackies are the best Mackies, back when they were made in Italy. They transferred the production to China and quality has dropped some.

Uhm, weren't Mackies made in the good ol' USA back in the day? Their HQ is just down the coast from me...

RUDE--I've been running an all Yorkville set-up for about 5 years. Specifically the 4 x LS800p subs and 4 x EF500p Tops- about 10,000 watts
It's heavy, can run hard, and you will not get bored of it! Here is a video of my partial yorkville system at a wedding---I wasn't the dj. Jump to about the 1 minute mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIwRsS33KHo I am getting rid of the tops only b/c I am purchasing 4 x qsc k12's. Similar output to my EF500's at half the weight. The Yorkville subs destroy anything in that price range. I will probably keep them for a few more years. I want to eventually get 2 danley sound labs TH215 Subs but I need a bigger trailer....all my wants will arrive eventually....starting with some pre paid CDJ2000's that have yet to arrive..DIG This message has been edited. Okay, since no one knows about the Mackie S218s I am now considering yorkville LS808 (to be pushed with QSC 2450). What I have read so far sounds good.

That's the same as my 800's except those are passive.
It's a horn loaded cabinet so it's got a ton of bottom end..... These are really good and slightly cheaper: http://www.yorkville.com/produ...d=317&cat=38&type=29 |

I think maybe based in US but perhaps made in Italy? Buddy of mine has a set of 15" self-powered's that say "made in italy" on the back. |
