Hi All,

First off I am not really sure of my budget so I am looking across the spectrum here.

I used to run my equipment (2x CDJ1000, DJM500,EFX500) all through my computer soundcard and out to my klipsch surround sound speakers.

This was a huge pain in the ass so now I am looking in to getting some sort of hookup just for DJ Audio purposes.

I am guessing I need studio monitors and a subwoofer? I have never really purchased anything like this I allways just got box set computer stuff so I have no idea what I am looking for.

If you guys can give me any info, that would be great.

We could suggest 10 different brands but unless it's something that meets your...

a) budget
b) power requirements
c) size needs
d) aural taste

... it won't really make a difference!

Two things I will say...

1) Go and listen to a bunch of speakers. You will always want to buy the most expensive because they will no doubt sound the best, but find the balance point. Chances are good you will not need a sub as many studio monitors are fantastic and give good punch.

2) KRKs kick ass. Wink

Budget, I would say 400 bucks for everything
Power...I want self powered, without an amp..is that possible?
Size 10x12 bedroom

I don't really know what I need tho...Just two monitors and a sub?

Chances are you won't need a sub for that setup, or won't be able to afford one on that budget.

A popular website (a friend of a musician) currently has KRK Rockit 6's on sale for $199 each. It's a steal!

I do enjoy hearing some bass while I spin....do those KRKs simulate any sort of bass or is a sub needed?

They're quite perfect as a DJ monitor.
They are actually designed for the studio work (producing), but as a DJ monitor they are really kickass!!

Every frequency region is represented in the right way, so I don't think you'll need a sub.

The KRK RP6 speakers are the best in my opinion according to price/quality.
I'd go for those Smiler

Do they come with those screens to put over the speaker?

I just hate the yellow and it would stick out like a sore thumb in my studio haha

If your looking for bass in a studio monitor I would suggest the Alesis M1. Their an older model but you should still be able to find some, also Event sound pretty good (bass wise)for a cheap price.

KRK's are nice but if you want low end I think you'll like the Alesis.

They're.

Wow, seriously people, these words aren't that difficult to use...

"There", location, as in "over there".
"Their", posessive, as in "mine, yours, theirs".
"They're", conjunction of "they are", as in "they're not available".
