Yup, I still use stickers ... green for trance, yellow for house, blue for breaks. I'll add red as a moderator for "hard" (ie. yellow on top and slightly offset above red for "hard house"). If I want progressive trance, I'll write a "P" on the sticker. Works great for quickly flashing thru CDs looking for a specific genre.

Adding every picture is so tedious...It is the major time consumer of this process but everyone who does seems to agree it is worth it.

Same here. Its a bit annoying but if u start and dont stop every minute like I do an entire cover should be done ina round 10mins. It would be great if the pics could automatically be resised tough.. 10x Again for the idea and template Zet.

Yup, by far the bottleneck of this process... I haven't been dedicating much time to it lately, but I might come up with ways of improving it... still, the source of the pic, and how to copy it won't change :\

Just a quick update from me...

I wasnt having much luck with those music sites that were posted for the covers, but one I found to be very good is www.juno.co.uk , its had 100% hits so far (Ive only done one, but it had awkward tracks on it ). Its a UK based dance vinyl retailer mainly, but they have images for all the tracks.

Juno rocks >D

They are a fantastic retailer, and yes they will have a lot of them... my only problem with that is that their pics are damn big (which is usually good, but in this case means a lot of resizing is involved... and illustrator is not that good at pixel resizing...)

Poop! I printed out my first batch of 5 or so, but they are all too small!

Something seems to happen in the process of saving for web (i used gifs), doing print preview in illustrator is fine.. but I dont have a printer here, and no illustrator on the PCs that can print in colour :/

Trying to figure this out now...

edit... Save as PDF to avoid loss of quality and equally importantly, SIZE

Jo man...

I just registered to ask you this. I bought some Pio's this year, and i'm making a nice cd collection. I allready use your template ( it works like magic). But it would be nice to have one that has more then 10 entries. Less is no problem obviously hahaha...

Thx in advance man, and cheers for the good work

Jay

I think the reason he only has 10 is most tracks of the genre he's using are so long that no more than 10 will fit on a CD.

it seems like it would be easier to make a template in photoshop - that way you can quickly transform the image to be the correct size. (ctrl or cmd +T)

looks good though

You're kidding right?

I used to think PS was the better application but honestly, AI is superior.

Illustrator would be the better choice if you really need something to be vector based. (ie, you need it scalable) but with something like this that is a fixed print size, Photoshop would be much easier (and more dynamic) to work with.

I know... most of the times that's the same here... but i have some cd's with some classics on them and they always go to 12 or something. i would love to have a copy of them with me when i go spinning and it would be nice to have the template ( or another one, i want to try to make one too ) to keep things nice and clean.

ok, here's the deal:

A) reasoning for 10 tracks, as pulse says, is mainly size. There's also a matter relating to text and pic size. I do have 2 cds with 12 tracks (or was it 11) I will check when I get home... and I can always make one for you with more...

B) the best software for this would probably be Indesign, but I find few people outside graphic design use it at all... illustrator over PS for type options (text in ill = better) andalso very good for printing and setting correct sizes for your document...

...I would personally stick to PS only for images
