Hi
I have recently re-installed soundforge after not using it for a few years. For some reason, there is no sound playing through it. The sound on my laptop is fine, and I know that the lead that connects the mixer to the laptop works as it works on a crappy recording program on my dads mac. Im at a loss, ive checked all the settings on my laptop and it is fine, and ive tried to check soundforge, but clearly I am missing something. Im not sure if it is a setting on my pc or soundforge. Does anyone have any advice?! |

Is it not playing the audio during a "playback" from SoundForge itself or during recording?
Are you playing a waveform or an MP3? What version are you running? Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Hi
It is during recording. There is literally nothing coming through from the mixer. Im using soundforge 8, which I used to use on my laptop, which makes me think it may well be my laptop, however im convinced its just a setting ive missed. Im not 100% certain off the top of my head but im playing a waveform as far as I know - but im in work at the moment so cant check - could this be the problem? |

Did you enable the recording monitoring? I know they changed that preference back in v6. If it's turned off, you won't hear the output from the computer while recording.

It's off the scale yet you've checked the mixer (Windows) volume levels and there's no problem? I'd say there IS a problem.

yes, exactly. I have checked the windows volume levels and they are half way up. The only issue I can see at this point is that the stereo volume box is checked and the volume is right down (however it wont allow me to move the volume up).
I have tried moving the windows volumes down and this does not affect the monitor volume - this still goes into the red even without any music playing? |

Are you guys using a MIC input as a LINE input? A microphone has a much lower signal level, thus requiring a huge boost in audio level. If you put a line level into a mic input, you'll wind up with nothing but distortion no matter how low you go.

Okay, cuz most laptops DO NOT have a line input.

do you mean have I got the connecting wire plugged into the mic line rather than the headphone line? if so, no it is in the headphone line. Although I did try both!

Gembo > the headphone is an ouput, the other is an input, 99% of the time it's a microphone input.
Benny - yeah, sounds like, check the recording options. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Hi, after reading the manual with a fine tooth comb I have discovered a few things. Firstly, the 'stereo' volume tab is checked and volume is right down. I cannot higher this up as it wont let me.
There is no line in - however there must be a soundcard in my laptop as I used to record fine before it was re-built. I have also used a driver search facility and have downloaded all possible sound drivers that I can see. I have literally hit a brick wall! HELP!! |

Hi Pulse
dont hold your breath...but.. I think I may have resolved it. Not sure what ive done, but the stereo volume has now allowed me to un-check it and check the mic volume, so im going to test this tonight and see if I can record again through the mic line. This is how I used to do it last time. I will let you know! thanks again |
