so how can you burn a set you recorded and split the tracks up so you can search through your set?

Two choices:

1) Manually cut the recorded waveform into track chunks
2) Create a CUESHEET either automatically in your software (with markers) or manually in a text editor

I have heard a lot about cuesheet's but can you point me in the right direction in how to manually create one in a text editor?

Thanks

5s of Googling found me this.

Doesn't exactly cover splitting ONE file but does link to a CueSplitter application.

Thanks Pulse, I did find something with more info on this cue sheet thing.
I copied and pasted this from another forum I am on.

Try Notepad. You use it to write a cuesheet for your mix, and it will sort out all your trackmarks for you.

Here's an example: the one I wrote for my last mix (albeit slightly edited for demonstration purposes). Just copy and paste it into Notepad and change the info to suit yourself:

FILE "file.wav" WAVE
TITLE "My Mix"
PERFORMER "Me"
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 1"
PERFORMER "Artist 1"
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 2"
PERFORMER "Artist 2"
INDEX 01 09:40:49
TRACK 03 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 3"
PERFORMER "Artist 3"
INDEX 01 16:49:02
TRACK 04 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 4"
PERFORMER "Artist 4"
INDEX 01 23:27:41
TRACK 05 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 5"
PERFORMER "Artist 5"
INDEX 01 30:50:45
TRACK 06 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 6"
PERFORMER "Artist 6"
INDEX 01 36:43:44
TRACK 07 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 7"
PERFORMER "Artist 7"
INDEX 01 42:20:21
TRACK 08 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 8"
PERFORMER "Artist 8"
INDEX 01 49:28:65
TRACK 09 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 9"
PERFORMER "Artist 9"
INDEX 01 55:51:63
TRACK 10 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 10"
PERFORMER "Artist 10"
INDEX 01 63:31:72
TRACK 11 AUDIO
TITLE "Title 11"
PERFORMER "Artist 11"
INDEX 01 71:35:45

Right, things you can change:

FILE "file.wav" WAVE

The file you want to split can be either a Wav file or an MP3. If it's a Wav, leave it as above, changing the "file.wav" bit to the filename of your mix (remember to include the full path of the file if the cuesheet isn't in the same directory as your mix, e.g. FILE "C:\Mixes\file.wav" WAVE). If it's an MP3, change WAVE to MP3 and again, put in the correct filename, e.g. FILE "file.mp3" MP3 or FILE "C:\Mixes\file.mp3" MP3).

TITLE "My Mix"
PERFORMER "Me"

This is the overall artist and title for the whole disc. Just change "Me" and "My Mix" to suit.

TRACK 01 AUDIO

You need one of these for each track on your mix. They need to be sequential (i.e. you can't suddenly go from track 3 to track 5). If you copy and paste my cuesheet above, either remove unwanted ones if your mix doesn't have as many as 11 tracks, or add them if it has more.

TITLE "Title 1"
PERFORMER "Artist 1"

These lines are optional for each track, they just provide info which will be burned as CD text and display on your player if it's compatible. Change "Title 1" and "Artist 1" to suit, or delete them entirely.

INDEX 01 00:00:00

For each "TRACK 01 AUDIO", "TRACK 02 AUDIO" etc. you need this line. This is the all important line that tells your burning program where to put trackmarks. The time is for when you want the track to start. It's in the format mm:ss:ff, where there are 74 frames/sec. Again, these have to be sequential, e.g. you can't have track 3 starting at 16:49:02 and track 4 starting at 09:40:49. Also, track 1 must always start at 00:00:00.

When you've got your cuesheet written to your satisfaction, goto "File>Save As". In the filename box type "mycuesheet.cue" (or whatever you want, just make sure it says .cue at the end, also without the "") and in the save as type box, choose "All Files (*.*)"

Then, load up Nero, goto "Recorder>Burn Image" and select your cuesheet. Then, just burn the CD using the same settings you would normally and hey presto, a (hopefully) perfectly trackmarked CD.

The last line is probably one of the more important things to note early on in the process - if you don't have a burning app that supports CUE sheets, don't bother making one. Wink

I keep telling you to send it to me again but apparently you don't go back and re-read any of the threads I tell you in.
