I'd like to buy two sound cards for my PC. I mainly intend to record vinyl into CDs (so I can use them on my CDJ500s - the European name for the CDJ700!) and to start mixing MP3's. Later, I'm also willing to start using MIDI controller for producing tracks.

I'm looking for a good quality A/D converter (for vinyl recordings) and good sound quality (MP3 mixing).

Any advice on what to buy, which characteristics to look for ?

Thx,
Xtof.

A short introduction into soundcards:
http://www.sharkeyextreme.com/hardware/guides/soundcards/

For more into depth information you can check:
http://www.anandtech.com/articlelist.html?t=161

It all depends on what OS you run (drivers) and what you wnat to do. For general purposes you are probably best of with a $ound81@st3r Live Pl@tinum; it's a nice allround card with the possibility of connecting your devices on the front side of your computer case.

After posting this reply for the first time, I suddenly see you're from Belgium. Don't know how your dutch is, but if it's any good I certainly recommend jeeping an eye on http://www.tweakers.net ; it's in dutch and has good pointers to hardware reviews. The postings from readers are unfortunately not that good, so I suggest skipping them.

Good luck.

hey all

best way is to look at the reviews for Sound cards on Tom's hardware site

http://www.tomshardware.com

it has most sound cards there in some area
I have the Sound Blaster Live card with the Daughter card out
then I bought the Sound Blaster Platinum Live 5.1 and thats even Better

best way is go to your local Store and have them show you then you can decide what you need..

Go with the best soundcard available, and get a soundscape mixtreme. Check it out: www.soundscape-digital.com .

You will also need an I/O interface, I would NOT suggest the one's that are offered by soundscape. They don't record as well as they should be able to for their listed price. Instead, go with a MOTU 2408, it has the most ins and outs I have seen for under $1k. Check it out here: www.motu.com

Finally, you should probably wire it all up to a mixer. Any one would do, I would imagine that a digital mixer would be your best choice, but I have it all running off of my DJM-600, and it works really well.

Anyway, that's just my suggestion, the above set me back quite a bit of money, and it doesn't even have MIDI capability yet. The quality is unbeatable though. You could save a lot of money, and go with a Soundblaster Live! Platinum. I'm pretty sure that it can do everything that you are asking for.

Good Luck,
- Eric
