What is the easiest way to record a mix? I am thinking recording straight into my laptop is the easiest way, preferably into ableton. Anyone know of any other simple programs and specifically how to connect my DJM 800 to my laptop for recording purposes?

Record into Audacity - it's free and lightweight. RyanJ has created a guide on doing so.

I shelled out $40 for Amadeus Pro. An EXCELLENT app if you have a Mac. It does everything i need and then some, plus you can burn CD's from inside the app and it would even split it into tracks and name each one if you set and name the markers.

Super easy to use too.

Either-or, doesn't matter. If you want to record into Ableton, you'll have to read the manual - I'm not up on their procedure.

I use very simple Goldwave, many people go for cool edit pro, but Goldwave is much easier, and clearer, get a trial version.

www.goldwave.com

Shame the longest you can record is 3hrs but still does the job for me. But you must have at least 512MB ram 1024 and more better, and in tools change clipboard from windows to goldwave, and ram for hdd if you're working with larger files. Like 10min and more.

Most applications will only record to around the 2-3hr mark, and that's only because of the filesize created by that length recording.

not on an NTFS partition. that 4gig limitation was on FAT32 file system. as far as i know, you can have as big a file as you want on an NTFS partitioned drive.

In theory, but a lot of the software simply doesn't do it because the file will be to large to have in memory space... or something.
