I was wondering where everyone downloads there music from? I have searched the web for reputable places that dont use P2P, I have been using musicnow from AOL and Musicmatch as well. I dont see any sites that give you 320 kbps or wav downloads... Can anyone school me on this? Thanks!

Try the following websites, they do offer 320kbps, at Beatport you can even get them in an audio format.

--- Beatport
--- Karmadownload
--- Musictoday

In my country the usage of such programs like soulseek is legal, as long as you don't share music on your own but only download from it.

I like Allofmp3.com, because you can get your music in wav if you want(so if I go digital, I get at least a wav instead of a mp3).

How is that supposed to work then?

You have music, I have music. If we're the only two people on the system and if neither one of us can legally provide music for the other to download, where is the music coming from? Roll Eyes

If you're obtaining commercially available music without paying for it, chances are pretty good you're doing so illegally. If an artist provides it to you at no cost (his choice because it's his music), that's different but the majority of music out there on peer-to-peer filesharing networks is traded illegally.

Fact is that, as long as you "only" download music and don't share music, you can do it. But they will also adapt and change the laws soon in Switzerland as well. Not that I care, because I mostly buy vinyl, because I want to scratch and beatjuggle, and that still is done best with vinyl and turntables. The CDJ-800 works well too, but I'm also a sucker for the big vinyl-covers, so I mostly get vinyl. And even if I would download something nice from an artist and would like it, I would out of respect towards the artist, go out an buy the original (since I'm DJ who wouldn't like it if his album gets ripped over at emule or kaazaa).

I feel you, Vinyl is still king, Serato is really close behind it and I'm afraid it is not the new better CD turntable players that are going to ultimately kill Vinyl but this new format of "Digital Wax" I can even beat juggle with serato (I Use mine in absolute mode) with two stickers placed at exact same points on the record and Serato in absolute mode you can track your beat juggles same as vinyl. only problem is it's not quite the same as setting up beat juggle points on seperate records, you have to visually track where you are starting your juggle etc... everytime since it's more like the 12 O'Clock version of marking the records etc... But with so many Vinyl DJ's switching to Serato eventually Vinyl sales will plumet too far to make it profitable enough for record companies to keep pressing LP's... A Sad Day is coming. DMC Turntablist competitions will be a secondary death, after all it's not the same to Dig through crates and find your opponent's names in small snippets of songs and diss them using two snippets you put together from seperate records, for instance Ice Cube's Line "Don't call me Dough Boy" and Big Daddy Kane's No Half stepping to put together lines like "Dough Boy" "Can't get With Me" "Dough, Do, Do, Dough Boy" "Pick a B.C. Date Cause your History" it's just not the same if you can record everything onto one track or record you saying lines etc... Digging and prepparing routines is part of the DMC way. Digital format makes that part too easy and unfair. They are debating whether to allow other formats into some of the competitions, I think a seperate division is needed.

Many people think of free downloads, when they talk about downloading. If you're not 1 of them then i recommend you this:

www.junodownload.com

you pay usually £0.99/$2 per track, but it's always worth to buy compilations like MOS with 30 tracks and more for usually £8.99/$18 those are good value

Go to www.mymp3pool.com. Its 20 bucks a month with unlimited downloads. They have hip hop and dance music. Good for serato users too because the overviews are built and they have cue points.

DJ Emir's entire above post

Right on the money and well said. Inevitably, the digital scratch war will overrun "true" vinyl turntablism, because at the end of the day, the masses care most about what actually comes out of the speaker. There will always be respect, but it's becoming a non-comparable thing. Serato has initially been made to be limiting and true to turntables, by not having auto-syncing and such mischief, but they will wind up adding it as the competition does, as well as adding decks.

In the end it will make real vinyl play seem as effective as wiping thine own buttocks with a large green leaf.
And real vinyl play will descend into it's final role, as a universally accepted musical instrument. "on the drums, Neal Peart, on the latin percussion, Aldo Mazza, and on the turntable, DJ Lyfe." wouldn't that sound nice Smiler
