sooo...

i've been thinking of going in Serato direction.

the question is: can i use Serato and record at the same time? i know Serato uses full screen interface, but would it let you Alt-Tab and do something else without interrupting your set?

couldn't find the answer anywhere....

No problems with the alt tab part... but be weary of cpu/ram and disk access

You'd have to think this through if you want to be sure nothing's going to happen...

Namely - do you have a multicore cpu (would surely help), 2GB of ram (forget 1) and are you using the internal soundcard or external to record? (in this case the internal would be better, IMHO, to keep the USB bus free for SSL)

Also, record with something simple... don't record with, say, Cubase Wink (resource usage)

hahah cool

my laptop is a MacBook Pro with 2 gigs of ram, so it should be fine. Recording with AmadeusPro (not a resource hog) so i guess it should be fine.

plus i am not planning on recording all the time. was just wondering if i would have to bust out another laptop just to be able to record Smiler

alt tab? Surely you mean Apple-tab? Big Grin

If you're going down the ttm route, you can record the entire set directly within Serato. Otherwise, if you're going SL1 and using that with your existing mixer (Pioneer, presumably?), you can just pipe the record output back into your MBP's line in (or optical in, if your mixer has optical/coax out?). Works a treat.

There are plenty of Serato users on here, I'm sure, but if you've got any other Serato-specific questions, feel free to drop me a line.

thanks Stuart Smiler

i'm sitting here, at work, in front of my Dell desktop running Leopard and typing on Microsoft Natural keyboard, so my keys a little screwed up over here Smiler

The mixer is a very sexy Rotary Rane Empath, so no optical there, just a regular Aux out that i record through.

I think im gonna borrow my friend's SSL and play with it for a few days, before i go and shell out bunch of money...

That Windows-logo key is the "Apple" key equivalent.

Really? I ever installed the drivers, I just plug-n-play so it's the logo-key on mine.
