i went to a 10,000 person dance party called "Science Fiction." 5 rooms, 13 international acts, was there from 9:30 until 8 am (its currently 7:30pm in perth), and i still havent slept. Brad was also there, the other active perth member pOo-FiSh was a softy and went to a surf club party.

The event was good, but it didn't live up to my expectations. Standouts were Soundlab (live) who was followed by The Freestylers. J-Roc (freestylers) absolutely tore the place apart. The other standout was Christian Smith providing wicked party techno and tech trance. For Brad's information, he bailed at the end of Smith's set, and missed out on vinylubb's very own chad d bring the house down.

Poor Stuart,

My experience was a bit better I guess. Sat with friends till 3 am till it got a bit lame...Called a cab and went into the city(Utrecht)... The first club we tried was bullseye. We had no tickets but we didn't need one so that was kinda lucky. Had to pay a lot of bucks to get in by the way and I think that stinks but hey, who am I to tell those people that they should lower their price . Partied till 8 in the morning and had to walk home because we had no money anymore . Still feeling a bit "brak" (dutch for hangover) but it was worth it.. Can't wait for 2002 now.

bye

AWESOME NIGHT!!

Guess what, played from 8pm till 6:30am non-stop on a DJM600, 2x CDJ100S and 2x SL1210 for an approx 400 extatic people crowd in a small bar here in Luxembourg.
I never had such a crowd go wild during the night (and the barowner told me afterwards it was their be$$$t night since 3 years).
Just before midnight I played first, about 1,5 mins before 0:00 "Sex Alarm" with "Siren" (sirenappella version, just 3x the famous rave siren, awesome!), then at midnight sharp a sample of Big Ben gong'ing 12 times, and while this was playing, I started to scratch really nasty with my dad's old vinyl of Abba's Happy Newyear. Finally I backspin the vinyl (it was too cheesy) and threw in Black Legend's "See the trouble in me", because I think this was the most remarkable record of 2000 (ok, a bit boring if you hear it now), although it was stolen from a 1991 record As hoped, people went completely nuts (also probably because of the alcohol
I played house first 4 hours, (no cheese, just the good groovy/happy/dubby/deep house, then it was r&b and rap for 1 hour (at that moment a dude & a chick went strippin on one of the bars, so 'erotic' inspired music at that moment (Tone Loc, Dirty Ol' Bastard, Vanilla Ice etc), to switch to a bit of poppy/funky/disco commercial classics just to satisfy the older guests, and then back to percussion/tribal house (wicked!) and finally slam bam techno to finish off those die hard party animals who didn't want to go).

All the DJ material did work perfectly all night, one of the CDJ100 decks even worked perfectly after a semi-drunk waitress sprayed with a bottle of gaseous water quite some over it! Phew!

Funny and TRUE note: a to me totally unknown PHC (pretty hot chick... the kinda ones you always wanna score with!) was yelling at me all the time to ask for something (she was seemingly very excited with the music I was playing - on Pioneer decks), but with 1000 Watts at 15 feet from both your ears I couldn't understand what she was asking for, although she tried at least 5 times to explain it with gestures (knocking on her chest, I didn't have a clue what she meant), lipsync'ing or yelling. So finally I handed over a pencil and a beercard (the DJ booth 'hangs' over the floor, bar has 2 levels, only highest level can touch DJ booth if they stretch themselves real long over the barrier) ... 1 minute later I got the card back. Guess what the beercard said...

"I love you"

(no Karl, it didn't say "I love Pioneer" )

Too bad I was busy and to far away to do more, but I took my digital camera and filmed the chick anyway from the DJ booth. I will pass it on the the intelligence agence to track her down.
One of my buddies who stand next to me watching down from the DJ-booth the floor was so nice to connect a second headphone to the DJM600 (with a splitter), connected a spare headhone (a Pioneer one, but not the DJ one, just a home version with a very very long cable) and gave it to the chick. So there was this chick listening live how I was cue'ing up the next track, with a cable hanging way above the dancefloor from the DJ booth to level 2 floor. Huh huh, I should have put on the cue channel the orgasmappella version from DJ Visage's "Geil" while she was listening.

I MCed and improv show. Not exactly DJ related, but it was still pretty fun. If you guys don't know what an Improv show is, have you ever seen "Who's line is it anyway" on tv? It used to be an english show, but they started it up again in the US recently.

It was fun.

I walked around with a Ikegami HL-V55 Betacam SP cam on my shoulder filming fireworks. Got drunk later on, filmed somebody puking on a BMW, filmed a couple of fat people getting it on, ran out of tape, and fell asleep. Kinda boring...

My New Years was pretty awesome, until the end of the night. Myself and a couple friends threw a party above a pool hall. We had about a week to get things together and it turned out pretty well. We had a couple hundred people show up and it was the first time we'd gotten to spin in front of a bunch of people (I was the only one using CD's and the crowd went crazy with my hard house set). The night came to a sreeching hault when we'd realized that some things had come up missing. One DJ had his record bag stolen with his car keys, records, and head phones in it. I ended up having a laser stolen (a small $100 one that I wasn't using at the time). Plus a friend got a CD wallet with about 10 or 15 CD's stolen (right off our table that we had our equipment on).
This was our first time throwing a party so I guess we learned the hard way to not be so lenient and let people get close to us and the equipment.

Happy New Year!!
Christian

Hope everyone had a cool time ... and really sorry linebkr had his stuff stolen. that really sucks. next time you guys have a party ... keeep your stuff far far far away from people. you never know what to expect. and whatever you do DON'T let people into the console.

I had my mobile phone stolen a few weeks before so BE CAREFUL!!!

Well, I had a great time! I spun at a party that had a lot of families and older people... so I played A LOT of house classics, rock from the 60s , 70s and some of the current hits. I got at the party by 10:30 pm and left there at, about, 6:30 am!!God, I played for, at least, 8 hours! My girlfriend (who was with me) fall asleep, so I had to take care of the sound system, lights and, of course, her
In the end of the night (or should I say day?), a couple of teenagers went to my dj booth asking me how I did those crazy mixing stuff, and I started to explain them a little bit about djing and stuff... Ill probably start giving some particular dj classes next week, as the kids really got intersting about it
I argued with my girlfriend because she wanted to leave the party and I was still talking with those kids! God, that was stressing... cool day of work anyway!
