I'm in the process of creating a new download service to complete with the likes of Beatport, DJ Download, Juno, etc.

I'd like to ask: what would it take for you to try a new service? What would you need to see in a new site? Do you think Beatport can beaten?

All helpful comments are appreciated.

Respect!

I want filters filters filters...
75% of tracks on beatport are not finished or basic copies of a tunes in top 10/100...
Something that I'm looking for is a really accurate filter implying that when the shop adds tracks it labels it with multiple (and meaningful) keywords.
This could save us some time...
I mean, there is more and more tracks released each day but not more time to listen to it. So if you have to work on something that no one has correctly done yet, it's filters =)

Quality!

Files have to be wav and provided by the actual record company, these will still need to be checked as a lot of digital downloads the quality is terrible.

Good Customer service and provide clear re-fund’s on bad files.

GUI User interface

FAIR PRICING!!

Get all these right and YOU WILL beat scum bag beatport, which is boycotted by a lot of people actually including my self.

Availability, what I hate the most from Beatport is the stupid window:

"Territory restricted"

If you have the track, just sell it, if you cannot sell it because licenses issues, do not show it !!!!!

I find it really convenient for finding tracks but yeah, the territory restriction thing should just simply not show the tracks instead of allowing us to get all excited about a tune then find out we can't buy it. Razzer

to tell you the truth Pulse, I actually like that :P it can be annoying I know, but I usually just randomly find tracks that I can't buy and then search for them somewhere else and buy them from there. But yes sometimes is just annoying, for example I wanna buy the original Edony - Martin Solveig (restricted) and I can't find it anywhere else!!! Mad

While I agree that the "territory restriction" thing is dumb, this has been around for a lot longer than you think. It's just more apparent now on the internets. Keep in mind that it's the labels who do this - one more reason to get rid of them all together.

Biggest example I have of this is a remix of Sarah MacLachlan's and Delerium's Silence; here in Canada, it was only available as a radio edit, and down in the states you could get the full mix. It was spectacular; and I got a copy, but being a Canadian artist, you'd expect that it would be available in Canada. But no. We had to pirate it. Silly territory restrictions.

BTW, anyone see Blender magazine? They said that the guy who passed up the Beatles the first time has finally been replaced at the top of the list of the biggest screwups in the music industry; he's been replaced by the music industry not taking advantage of online services and changing their business model to support things like Napster. Man, they coulda made SO much money!
