I just saw another manufacturer's mickey mouse tabletop cd player on another forum. I'm sure you are well aware of this product. My question is:
How in the world can GeminCrap come out with a CD deck whose patter design is an OBVIOUS rip-off of Pioneer's ??? I mean, it's not just similar. It's a blatant attempt to copy Pioneer's design. What's really going on here? Did Pioneer license that design to another company? I would find that very surprising. Or are these guys just begging for a lawsuit? Is Pioneer going to stand for this?? What's the real deal, Karl? Come on, tell the truth. |

? I think it's probably the one I saw at NAMM last year and yes it's a very similar style platter.
I'm sure it's different enough to stay out of court over. It's amazing how oftern things get duplicated by other companies, so I think it's the mechanics that count. Like cars, all have an engine and doors and wheels, but a Kia isn't a Lambo; expect on the west coast of Canada!!! Pioneer National Trainer & Product Specialist |

It's a complete rip-off and I'm sure legal has already looked at it.

No we did not license the technology to Gemini. I can't see us ever doing that with any company. It's not the first time that they've done that either. Google CDJ-1200 which was there CDJ-500 copy. I guess you can say that copying is the best form of flattery
I saw that Gemini piece on the web about a month ago and thought it was too close for comfort. What Gemini doesn't realize is that Pio patented that design long ago since it was a key feature that enables the DJ to track his position on the record (CD). I will wait till it hits the market to get a better look at it in the mean time I'll let 'em sweat. Anyone who has been dj'ing for more than a year knows that Gemini is very, very low-end gear.
I recall working at a DJ store years (10-11 years) ago and receiving boxes from Gemini. They would use rolls of toilet paper and newspaper as packing material. There was also a certain someone who would get busted by Customs for attempting to sneak a certain CD collection down from Canada Kind of a low-class outfit. Those in the know use good stuff. |
