Fellow DJs, in the past and current, I either have or am working with three subscription services.
- Promo Only (Mainstream Radio) - Jones TM (Prime Cuts) - ERG (Nu Music Traxx) I'd like to hear from the community on what format you prefer of the three services. Maybe there's a service that is not listed that you've worked with or are working with that you feel is better than any of the three listed above. If so, please post up some information on it or them. I purposely snapped the photos without the flash on, to give that on the job feeling. Most times we are at our venues we are dealing with dim lights. The "Pros" and "Cons" listed are that of my own. Many of you may differ from my feelings and that is fine. If so, please voice your thoughts...after all...that's what this post was meant to do. Maybe our voices can be heard to each of the companies to help them help us make our lives easier with our music searches. First up, Promo Only. + Pros; I like how their track titles are in large font. So when lighting is low, it's a bit easier on the eyes to search for a track. - Cons; Quickly locating a BPM to beatmix with, in a given genre, is not as easy as ERGs format. Also, there's no organization (that I'm aware of) with the order of the genres on the CD. Next up, Jones TM. + Pros; Layout is clean. The font of the track titles is in bold and larger font than the rest of the data. Tracks are organized by genre. - Cons; Quickly locating a BPM to beatmix with is not as easy as ERGs format. Locating a track is a bit easier than Promo Only, but not as easy as ERG's format. Though I do like how Jones TM has their genres organized, I still have to look in a legend at the top of the page to figure out which genre the song below it is. Lastly, Entertainment Resources Group (ERG). + Pros; Track information is best in organization. Many of us are use to using Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet programs. ERG uses this same format with rows and columns. They've also organized their music by genres. - Cons; Track titles should be in a bolder font than the other data to stand out for quicker locating. Please post up some feedback. Thank you. |

Not having dealt with Jones or ERG, do they vary their colours monthly like Promo Only? If they offer multiple series', is the colour consistent across all series' CDs for that month?

No worries brother...just trying to help others out as I've gotten some good info from others here. As for the color schemes... ERG = Different color every month. Jones TM = Changes every month from Red, Blue, Green, and Purple. Promo Only = Different color every month. |

I have promo only and erg cds and I like erg better based on the genres blended in together. but the track listings are too close together. But I like the promo only layout based on the spacing between tracks. I mix by ear not bpm so that doesnt really matter to me. Do any of you know what happened to mixmax record pools I used to get them for a few years and then they just closed up. I liked those they even printed your name on all the cds that you received.
