This is an announcement to inform all users that the forums will be closed for migration to new forum software from 8am - 6pm Pacific time, Monday November 27th, 2006.

All current posts and user data will be transferred to the new database. The new forums will use the Groupee login system. Your username is based on the your email address. Any forum users that do not have a Groupee account will receive an email similar to the one quoted below.

To ensure that you will receive the email, we suggest the following:

1) Check your current profile email address to ensure that it's active. Many people change email addresses and forget to update their profile / account information on forums. If the email address you have is no longer active, you won't receive the confirmation email.

2) Add support_bot@groupee.com or groupee.com to your safe-senders list. This will ensure that the confirmation email is not delivered to your trash or spam folders.

If you already have a Groupee account, you will be able to access the forums with your existing Groupee login - you will not receive an email.

If you have any questions regarding this move or experience any troubles post-move, DJ Pulse has offered to assist.

Thanks for your patience and understanding - we expect that you will enjoy the new forum software and its features!

VinylConvert,
Forum Admin

Humm, never heard of this, but it seems VERY interesting.

I want to take this oportunity (since we will be in a completely different format) to change my nick to what everyone knows, thejp:

so... pulse, I will try to change this directly, now, so that when the migration comes this gets done automagically (not sure if you need to accept something as a mod?)

Also, the forum migration, will it include current topics, of will he migrate only the users and create new forums (and not transfer threads?)

From what I understand, EVERYTHING gets moved. Users, threads, etc., the whole enchilada. I'll have to see about name changes.

Hell...if I had known!

I have a license of vBulletin that I'm not using. I would have donated it to the site! Doh!

Yeah, I'm with you on that - vB rocks, but as I understand they're going with Eve Community because it's hosted and they perform all the updates at the host as they are needed whereas vB would require someone from Pioneer or the web designers to manage it.

Bah, that's something I'd be willing to do, even pay for the yearly updates. But I'm sure that's not something that Pioneer would go for. Oh well! Hope this Eve place is pretty good.

But I don't think you'd be willing to manage it and balance server traffic the way that Groupee is.

BAH! That's why there are forum mods (and admins), like yourself and...Jay is a mod too, isn't he?

As for balancing server traffic...unless you see over 100 new posts a day, it's pretty easy.

You don't want to know what kind of bandwidth hog the Pio forums are. Ugh!

I'm not an admin, they don't pay me.

Random guess, I would say...oh...around 10 gigs a month.

Ah well. Hope the Eve stuff works well!

bah. Oh well, it seems to work. Feels like a downgrade though, the interface is nasty. I (and quite a few others) thought the previous board migration was a step backwards too!

Gotta agree, it seems a bit too family-friendly... almost "let's make this stupid proof"

But, I have high hopes for the admin and mods' ability to slowly patch things up and mod the kabooey out of it... so let's wait and see

It's not bad, not great. Things I like, things I don't. Overall I think it'll be for good.
