No hating towards PIONEER, but has'nt anybody not noticed
these new beutiful looking toys?? I'm curious to see if the hype is all true according to what panasonic says about it.It's hard not to want some of these knowing how great of a reputation their turntables have had over the last 30 years ....Trend |

Quote: okay, the new techn!cs is obviously a cd player... but i'll just want an english lesson from everyone (cause i speak aussie-english not perfect english... haha!)...anyway (i'm expecting everyone to correct me here ) but the sl-1200s are not a predecessor to they sl-dz are they? yes the sl-1200s are succeeded by the sl-dz, but i was just thinking that because the media they play are different... so it's a totally new product; rather than a new model update etc. or should i be going back to school for english class < !--color--> |

If you're talking per-product, the DZ not is the "successor" to the SL1200 - the MK3 would be the successor to the MK2 (in that regards). They're not discontinuing the TTs!
The reason I used predecessor is because the DZ is based on the 1200 - all their ideas and notions for the deck were formed on the 1200 foundation. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

I just wonder in general what Pio's response will be with all competitor brands bringing out copy-cats of the CDJ1000 but with added bells & whistles (mp3 to name one). I've seen a few and they do look quite impressive too (although not a surprising as the CDJ1000 was!)
Pioneer has always been 'pioneering' the CD-DJ market, but aren't they afraid that all these competitor models with a lower price tag & more functionalities won't eat away too much of the CDJ1000 cash-cow cake? Of course the usual "quality" response may be used, but for average DJs, not willing to spend 4 digit prices for a CD player while they can do the same for less, this sales argument will be largely ignored. I don't see the DVD sister model of the CDJ1000 as a real followup since it's targeted towards a real niche hi-end market, not for most mortals like us! a CDJ1500 or 1000MK3 in the next year would be nice...? ![]() |

I just read in other forum a guy that "tested" the unit in a store and saids that its slow as hell to fully load a CD (i guess maybe loading the cues and sampler), and that is not what any DJ are looking for.
Maybe this unit its a competitor to demon, but not for pioneer. ![]() |

I tried 1200 at NAMM and at store on Saturday.
* I only liked two features, SD card (you can use up to128MB card) and spinning platter but other then that I don't think they can compete with 1K. * I really dont the display on SL DZ 1200, too much information on such a small screen * Search/Track search are too close to each other. Bottom lineFrom the article "Basically, they should stick to convetional analog turntables" T |

Quote: Wouldn't that make it several years behind Pioneer then... since they have the MKII now? You know, the one that loads up faster. |

first generation products are known to be far from perfect. especially considering this is a brands second really foray into the market, 15 yrs after its first. nothings perfect, not even pioneer. hence mk2 cdj1000's :P
it may not be a good competitor now but im sure they wont rest on their laurels. btw: deepdish love the thing. |

Yeah, it'll be interesting.
Technics hasn't been known for their innovation... It'll be interesting to see how they tackle the challenge of releasing a new product that hasn't been engrained in the culture for 30 years. |

That's a good point, major improvements haven't been a regular thing with Techs. I haven't touched them yet so I can only go from what people say, but as Pulse mentioned this is a Pioneer board! Talk about Pioneer.

All of the newer cd players have one thing in common...they are all comparing themselves to CDJ100's. Every other forum, article and reviewer compares this player or that player to the Pioneer. That's enough said right there. Even though the SL DZ is being made by "Tech", the CDJ is the "1200" of the industry.

There is room for everyone and I welcome Technics into the market. The piece is sexy, they are the standard in turntables, and I wish them well.
I actually think that the more manufactures that are making CD turntables the better. It can only grow the market. I hope the Technics piece does especially well in the scratch battle market. THAT market still has many hardcore Vinyl purists that think CDs can't scratch like vinyl (they must live in a cave). If Technics is successful in converting more vinlyists to look at CD..... then we all win and it helps the whole CD turntable market grow.
