my lucky break came through a few months ago and I got a spot on fri/sat nights. after awhile I was down to one night only due to testing different formats/genres. So I would hang out on my nights off to socialize with the patrons and actually meet and talk to the people who danced on my floor all these nights and let them know they're appreciated. A lot of them were mostly girls. I realized later that just because these "Bootches" got to know me, they were constantly bugging me for requests and being very demanding as if I was obligated. one even totally ignored me when I walked by her a few days later just because I forgot to play her request. I stand very firm on my selected tracks based on crowd momentum and how busy it is. I go by feel. so I will not drop in a 68bpm track from a 128 set just because someone had a drunk request. I only have 4-1/2 hours to play my sets precisely with the requests fitted in and it's a pure balancing act I tell you! So I decided just simple greetings to the patrons and nothing more so they can leave me the "fook" alone! It was better in my first months when they did'nt know me and just danced to whatever was played like good drunk boys and girls.
I play at floor level with the crowd just like the house parties from the past. Don't get me wrong I don't speak for all the patrons, just the few who are all about themselves.
So fellow Dj's, tell me how you deal with this or similar situations or even give us a story or experience about this.

For the most part, I don't chat up the patrons too much. There are some exceptions, such as a cute blonde from Sydney....

Ahm.

Well, anyways, there are very few patrons I get friendly with because of the exact reason above. They think they have priority over what I'm going to play and what other people request.

I have a lot of friends who come to the clubs that I play. They usually do tend to ask for some tracks. If I like the tracks I'll play them, if not I apologise and just say I can't play it now or I forgot it at home.

Basically I don't do requests..
