Hi
Im new around here but I have a question and I ask for your help. Do you have any information which company (Denon, Pioneer, Numark, Ameriacan Audio, Gemini and many more) made the first proDJ CDplayer and when? |

You posted your question in the "Forum Help" which is the area of this board for asking questions about things like "My profile isn't working" or "How can I send PMs?"
Your question was equipment related and was best suited for the Gab Bag forum. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Actually, I think the SL-P 1200 was first. Probably sometime around 1990. Wasn't the 1300 introduced afterwards? I'm not sure what the difference between the two was, since they looked physically identical. Maybe the 1300 added a few features (digital outputs?).
Anyway, I remember that thing.. It weighed about as much as a car... And cost about that much too! Seriously though, I think the retail price was about $1200 (ironically)... Which was a sh!tload of money at that time. As a matter of fact, I remember that for a long time, the only people that I knew who could afford it was Disney. They had a pair in every club at Pleasure Island. I used to gawk at them. Some years later, I found a friend who had one. Strange thing about that player was that the pitch control was backwards (up for faster, down for slower). My friend had opened it up, and fixed it to work like a normal pitch control. * I say "backwards" because that's completely opposite of every other pitch control that anyone has ever seen. Truthfully, it does make more logical sense to have it so that "up" is faster and "down" is slower. However, since every DJ in the world was already used to having it the other way around, the SL-P1200's pitch control was actually counter-intuitive for anyone with any DJing experience. In any case, that machine was truly revolutionary. No scratching, but it was the very first machine that allowed you to mix CD's and alter the pitch. If you were the type of DJ that could mix vinyl without ever touching the platter (I was), then the transition to these CD players was seamless. It was awesome. The SL-P1200 was to that generation of DJ's, what the CDJ-1000 is to this one. click here for images of the Technics SL-P1300 This message has been edited. Last edited by: Manny C, |

You are correct sir ... I couldn't remember the name and the 1300 was the first one to pop into mind. Reason would stand that the 1200 came first.
