never had that problem. The closest thing that I've experienced like that is when I use the master tempo and the widest pitch setting and slow it down really really slow.

double check your RCA connecting cord, also are you using it near any other electronics, TV.

I know sometimes RF signals can mess things up, but if it's working now it may have been a weird set-up when it didn't.
