Yesterday I took a trip to Guitar Center to get myself a midi keyboard to use with my Reason program and next to all the keyboards they had the "DJ" section with turntables and cd players, etc. For those that know me on here for years now, know that I'm a DIE HARD vinyl man. I never considered converting to cds and I found this site cause I love my DJM-500. The mixer they had setup was a DJM-600 and on the right was a CDJ-1000mk2 and on the left was the Techics CD-1200(I think thats the model name, the cd player with the moving platter) Both players had cds in them so that people can test them out. I decided to give the pioneer first try. Pressed the play button and put my hand on the platter. Once my hand hit the platter the music stopped immediately. I was taken back for a sec since I'm not used to this. I proceeded to move the platter back and forth in a scratch motion and I got chills down my spine on how it sounded just like a turntable and how instant the sound came through and there was no delay at all.
I thought to myself "Damn these things are awesome, so the 1200s should be just as good if not better considing how well built the turntable is." Boy I was wrong. The 1200 eventhough it had a moving platter didn't feel right. The sound didn't sound as good as the CDJ and I also thought that it had a lil lag to it when it came to the some coming out. The style of it seemed dated and the layout seemed off to me unlike the CDJ. Pioneer has a great product which all of you already know and probably everything I just wrote is old news, but this "old school" DJ is seriously thinking of biting the bullet and getting these bad boys. If I had the money on my credit card I would of taken a pair home with me. If I do get these what would I do with my 4k+ records??? ![]() |

What to do with your vinyl? Archive it to CD and make the switch :-).

Being a former die hard vinyl guy my "epiphany" was very simular...welcome to the new age.
I have got a TON of old vinyl myself and I can tell you converting it to CD is pain staking and time consuming. What I now do is record particular songs as needed. Keep dat vinyl...still very useful for venues that dont have CDJ's and you can use it for samples. |

last night i did a party at discoteque & one of my boys was like let me get down also. so we switched on and off the whole night, i used the cdj's he used the 1200. he had six record boxes. i had my backpack & a box of various interscope cds, flyers, stickers (as the venue had cdj's). at the end of the night he saw me taking out the memory cards. he was like what's that for. i showed him the hotstarts & loops and it blew his mind! by the way i worked on 1000's last night as opposed to mk2's. wow that was a blast from the past. i really like the mk2's.

I love the things, and now my Vinyl friends are saving up to join me. The DJs I respect who do TT tell me their awesome players, and I agree, especially with me not being a big Vinyl guy....

I would not be using 1000s if they did not perform the way they do. I used 1200s not because they were the standard, but because they got the job done. 1000s have made my job easier.

Great sound quality, perfect scratch duplication, and a myriad of great loop and cue features, I love them.
I wish, they made a left and a right one. Like reverse the location of the power/cue and pitch controls, would make juggling a lot easier. ![]() |

The best thing is that you will find that these players allow you to be more creative with your mixes.

Well I got them yesterday and I must say that it took a lil to get used to the feeling but I loved every min of it. I was to the point that I was messing around doing crazy stuff that I didn't care that there was a live crowd listening cause I wanted to play. There were points where I just wanted to hear the thing play in reverse so I hit the switch and I had a big grin on my face showing it off to some of the guys while the crowd just look at me like I had mental problems. Good thing that everyone there knows me and the crowd is pretty much all regualars. They realized I had a new "toy" in my hands to they bared with me.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that you better play with them at home so that you can get all of the "playing around" out of your system. LOL.
