Here's the background info:

2x CDJ 1000 mk2's
CD Brand: Varies (Verbatim, Sony - skipping has happened with every brand at one point or another)
Burning software: iTunes (latest version)
Burn Speed: 4x
Other tests: Occurs with store bought CD's too.

Dilemma: The skipping happens 1-2 times a week with about 4 hours of use = once every two hours.. it's pretty often but not often enough to get it fixed and test right away at the repair shop.

My Questions:

-Should I do any more tests?
-Is there anything you can recommend me changing to avoid this problem?

or

Should I send it to Pioneer? (It'd cost me $500+shipping for both units).

have you tried tech support? I have the same players, same discs and used Itunes to burn, but no skipping. Try tech and see what they direct, BUT I also use 2x burn rate.....

Does it happen to both units? That'd be pretty weird. What kind of environment are they in?

You'll most likely have to send them in for repair. They don't have to go all the way to Pioneer, but a local repair shop can do it just fine.

try turning master tempo off and see if it still happens. i once had a problem with random skipping with these players, and found it to only happen with master tempo on.

That's the ONE thing I've recently logged, I put stickers on each so I know which one is skipping. I'll report which one is doing it from here on out.

They're located in the home dj room, it's actually a really nice, dust free room.

I called Tech Support and they told me to send them in or go to a Pioneer authorized repair shop. I use 4x burning but I might go down to 2x now that I know you burn at that rate.

I HAVE tried it without Master Tempo and it DOES disappear but I usually keep master tempo on so I haven't tested this theory extensively.

What program are you using to burn? 4x is fine but if you're using Nero, there were some problems with their MP3 to CDA decoders which caused bad discs.

Any other recommendations as far as burning software? I also use Toast(rare albiet) but I prefer iTunes.

Last night I played a 2 hour set without master tempo and noticed NO SKIPPING.

Toast is good, I just really don't like the way iTunes handles certain aspects of the burn.

I'm on the fence with Toast, I've had some bad burns with it but not with iTunes.
