My questions are:

Does the platter move?

Does the slipmat/jogdial on top of the platter move?

If both the slipmat/jogdial and platter move, do they move independently of each other like if you grab the top slipmat/jogdial, the platter keeps moving and when you let go the slipmat/jogdial moves again like a record?

Can you literally hold the track on the slipmat/jodgial and scratch it back and forth and still hold the track and it will only play again when you let go?

When you change the tempo/pitch does the platter(if it moves) also change it's turning speed?

Do you get that sort of little wind up when you release the track after scratching as in a turntable and if so is it adjustable for instance having a instance catch up of speed or adjusting it to a little lag?

Will you be able to literally find certain parts of songs where you would want to scratch and wind it up forward or backward like on a record with your hand?

These are my questions for now but I have more coming. I'm just curious because I'm about to buy a complete set (2 1200s and a Battle Mixer) but i'm mostly interested in the scratching aspect and i'm going to hold out if these can equal a Technic-1200 or Vestax PDX-2000. In other words does this CDJ-1000 emulate a Technic-1200 or Vestax PDX-2000 100%?

Welcome to the board! My advice to you is to first of all watch the demo video clip of the cdj 1000 on this site. Then get hold of a copy of the full demo video. Finally, get into the stores and demo a pair out. There will be nothing like touching them and actually getting a feel for how they compare against the old black plastic. Do you scratch on vinyl at the moment?

I only mess with my friends tables right now. I was set on getting 2 SL-1200 M3Ds with Shure M-447 needles and a Stanton SK-2F Limited Mixer but I was reading on topics on the LINKDELETED.com board and a couple of people posted a topic about the Pioneer CDJ-1000, so I was curious and I checked it out. It looks pretty phat.

So there are demos of the CDJ-1000 already out to mess with? Where could I try them at? I live in Southern California. Would they be at a Guitar Center or Sam Ash music store or at Pro Sound & Stage Lighting ? I really want to see how these compare to a turntable!

It should be hitting the stores in about a little over a month's time. To thje best of my knowledge NO dealers currently have it for customers to try it out.

Their is a downloadable video/audio clip of Roonie G (PIONEER DEMO DJ) scratching on the units. When u 1st log on to this web site....if you click on info (where it says the long awaited CDJ 1000) & then click on audio/video clip.

The jog wheel doesn't spin, but it is"touch sensitive".
You can hold the music with your hand, you can spin it back & forward & find your cue point for scratching or whatever.
From what I understood, the start up time is adjustable.
Hope this has answered some of your questions. More info is available by doing a search for the reviews from the launch day(May 16 th).

Does the platter move?

LITERALLY THE ANSWER WOULD BE NO. BUT BY TOUCHING THE PLATTER AND MOVING IT, THE MUSIC WILL SPEED AND SLOW DOWN JUST LIKE IF IT WAS MOVING.

Does the slipmat/jogdial on top of the platter move?

AGAIN, LITERALLY IT DOES NOT. BUT THE JOGDIAL ON TOP ACTS AS IF IT IS A VIRTUAL RECORD. YOU CAN GRAB IT AND DO A BACKSPIN IF YOU WANT, CUE IT, SCRATCH, ETC. IN THE VERY CENTER OF THE JOGDIAL IS A LIT UP LED "VINYL" SYMBOL WHICH ROTATES AROUND LIKE THE ACTUAL RECORD. AS SOON AS YOU GRAB IT THE VINYL MARKER STOPS AND MOVES TO THE TOUCH OF YOUR HAND.

If both the slipmat/jogdial and platter move, do they move independently of each other like if you grab the top slipmat/jogdial, the platter keeps moving and when you let go the slipmat/jogdial moves again like a record?

LIKE I SAID ABOVE, THEY DON'T MOVE LITERALLY. BUT IF YOU WERE TO GRAB THE TOP AND THEN LET GO, IT WOULD START UP AGAIN JUST AS IF THE BOTTOM PLATTER WAS SPINNING.

Can you literally hold the track on the slipmat/jodgial and scratch it back and forth and still hold the track and it will only play
again when you let go?

YES

When you change the tempo/pitch does the platter(if it moves) also change it's turning speed?

SINCE IT DOESN'T MOVE LITERALLY, IT WOULDN'T CHANGE.

Do you get that sort of little wind up when you release the track after scratching as in a turntable and if so is it adjustable for instance having a instance catch up of speed or adjusting it to a little lag?

YES THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT KNOB THAT YOU CAN SET IT FOR WHAT YOU'RE USED TO.

Will you be able to literally find certain parts of songs where you would want to scratch and wind it up forward or backward like on a record with your hand?

YEP
