I have many DJ friends and they all seem to use a different Tempo setting on their MK3. I spin a lot of Electro House and don't know if I should be using 6 or 10. Can somebody explain to me the difference?

Set it to 6% and play with it see what changes.
Set it to 10% see how it changes.
Not being mean but just play around with it this is how you learn. Smiler

Hey Mikey,

I have been playing with both and no worries as I'm not taking your comments as "mean". I appreciate the comment.

What I'm trying to find out to help me understand the different settings are what the difference is between the 4 options (6, 10, 16, wide). When on "6" does it mean it's more detailed when trying to beatmatch, etc. I'm just trying to find the meaning of the Tempo and the difference from one to the next to get a better understanding of what I'm actually doing and why I would have it set on one and not the other.

Thx,

I use 6% when DJing electronica because I rarely stray outside 4% difference between tracks. When I'm playing for parties and other events where I may hit a wider range, then I'll use 10% but I never use 16% range. Wide is used for effects or creative transitions.

Thx Pulse. I think I'll stick with 6% but is there any reading I can do to understand the difference in technical terms? I just like to know what these settings actually do to tracks when mixing and the difference if you use one over the other.

I see that you say you will use 10% when playing a wider range of music but want to know why? What does the 10% setting do differently than the 6%?

6% range = 0.02% accuracy
10% range = 0.05% accuracy

It's a matter of math when you get down to the nitty-gritty BPMs and trying to get the best possible sync between them. With 0.02% accuracy, it's 2.5x more accurate than 0.05%, but you need to spend more time honing in on it.

For Weddings, Clubs and general events (a variety of tracks, or mostly urban), I use them at 10% as well. you just end up with more possibilities in a pinch for a mix. I also tend to ride MT as much as possible..

Thx a ton Pulse and djjay! That's exactly the information I need to know. I love this forum!

Have a great weekend guys and thanks again for all the help!

One more question while I have you guys then. Since I'm learning to beatmatch with mainly Electro House, Tech House and Progressive which setting should help me the most? 6% or 10%?

Cheers,
C

I play nrg (hard dance)and on occasion have used the 16%.
In general, mines on 10%, even if a track is increased by only 0.5%.
Never used the 6% setting!

if your just learning, try to start with tracks that are with in a range so your adjustments are to wide open. I believe that 10% would work best for a beginner, but like everything in the DJ world-

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE...... Wink
