I was looking at the Serato website and apparently only the public BETA version of the software supports the CDJ400 - the current FULL version does not.
Place your complaints with Serato, perhaps it's a bug as it never failed for me. As for the memory stick, what is the brand and type and how many songs are on it and what is the folder structure? Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Thank you guys for all the help
Serato works fine except for the cue accuracy issue. I also have access the denons 5000 and it does not have the cue accuracy problem. This also ties in with the loop and reloop when reloop is hit there is a slight delay. I truly love my CDJ400's so I hope that Pioneer correct this. Loading the memory stick is totally understandable Pulse ne idea on the firmware check and the unit displays a bunch of numbers and the other displays 1.8 ?? |

If you're using 1.2 and Serato's Beta, the latency is Serato's issue, not Pioneer's. Hopefully they'll fix it.

Thank you all for the info
BUT I really would like an explanation for my CDJ400 displaying numbers instead of the actual firmware version. One of them will display 1.2 and the other numbers 697589 etc etc I am wondering if there is a reset feature then I can reload the latest firmware ???? |

Just re-flash the firmware on that other unit, I don't know why it's showing you that info. Did you press any other buttons? It could be you went into diagnostic mode.

It gets worse, they just pulled support for the 400 from the latest release of the public beta and announced that support will not be in SSL 1.8.1 (the next release) due to issues in getting the 400 to work with SSL when both 400s are plugged into a USB hub. I'm in the market for a pair of 400s, so I'm poking around here to see how people like them. I've put some mileage on my CDJ 1000mk2s and they have never let me down, but I like the idea of the player doubling as a "native" controller. And tripling as a sound card is pretty darn nifty, too. -E |

I really would like to use my CDJ-400's with some sort of software solution but I am so confused about which product to go with with all the errors and different people saying all the difficulties with the CDJ-400's.
I might need to ask you for some advice Pulse with my setup and see W.W.P.D. |

WWPD....
Wookies Work Pioneer DJ? World Wide Pulse Domination? Willie Wonka's Perverted Dream? Keep in mind some of the issues CDJ400 owners are complaining about are minor or non-existent issues for others. For example, I've never had a problem with any of the flash drives I've plugged in, yet a few people have... or take the looping problem where the audio quality would crackle, it was solved with a firmware update. The CDJ400's are great decks and they pack in a lot of performance for the price. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

I would like to second what Pulse says. I have used my 400's with multiple USB drive, ipods, etc and never had a problem. All the effects and capabilities of the 400's make them HUGELY the best bang for the buck pioneer player there is.

ALSO - if the cue accuracy problem you are having is from a timecode CD, there will be a delay with the cue from a normal CD in a cdj. there is no way to fix this, this is just how it is, until the proper version of serato that works natively with the CDJ40s...

There are a lot of things that I just don't understand...
A lot of people are saying that you can't scratch with SSL and CDJ-400's, what is that all about? And if I use SSL, will I lose all my effects from my CDJ-400's and DJM-400? I am completely brand new to all of this, I just purchased 2 CDJ-400's and a DJM-400 and I couldn't be any more lost when it comes to implementing my setup to software. I should also point out that I have never owned any other decks/mixers/etc in my life. What Would Pulse Do |

Yes, you currently lose the effects on the CDJ400 but you still have them on the mixer so it's not the end of the world.
You can scratch but Serato is still addressing latency issues (delay between the motion of the jogwheel and the response of the audio). The setup is fairly simple... CDJ400 audio out > DJM CD input CDJ400 USB > computer ScratchAmp Line Out > DJM Line input To play a CD on one player, press the CD button on the CDJ400 you want and ensure the mixer line switch for that CDJ is to the left (CD). To play Serato for that source, press the USB/PC button (with Serato running, of course) and switch the mixer line switch to the right (LINE). Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

I understand from a hardware stand point how to hook everything up...
I am just really confused about what will work, how it will work, if it is even worth running my CDJ-400's through SSL, etc. I mean, really, what would the benefit be for me to run everything through SSL? A lot of beginners seem like they buy SSL for the Beat Matching but I come from a musical background so beat matching was very very easy for me to understand and pick up with my past with music theory, training, etc. I understand the benefits coming from Vinyl, but I am already digital, I don't do much scratching at all obviously, so what am I gaining... It would really help to see the setup in person but unfortunately around here...there aren't many club style DJ's...it is a very very backwoods type area, there is one club that plays rap/dance type stuff but that house DJ is absolutely terrible and I pick his mistakes out left and right, ugh. |

The beauty of a DVS (digital vinyl system) such as Serato is you are now carry around ALL of your music in one place. It's easy to find tracks and you don't need to worry about changing discs / vinyl.
I'm a CD jock, I started as one, I tried vinyl, found it okay but didn't have the benefits of CDs. I don't love DVS's (namely because I'm a tangible memory kind of guy - I don't find songs easily by looking at lists) but they certainly are quick and dirty. I don't scratch either so whatever performance they might offer there is lost on me. I just want something stable which is easy to use... but I always take CDs as backups.
