Hi,
this topic may have been already covered, i had a quick look but couldn't see exactly the same problem.

I play out regularly, setting up our own equipment on some nights, i recently bought a new pair of CDJ400s about 2 months ago (mainly due to vinyl costs), since purchase i have never put a CD in them, i always use the USB sticks and i keep experiencing the following reoccurring problem.

I put a track on, set it going in the headphone and take around 30 seconds of the track to set the bpm correct. I then pause the track and press track back button to get back to the start of the tune. The CD deck then decides to freeze, no track time appears again, the name of the track scrolls across the screen still, you can also use the folder search dial at the top to scroll through whats on the memory stick, but no track will play.
(The first time this happened i was mid set so you can understand i was quite pissed.)
If you then turn it off and back on, it will let you scroll through, play any track, pause the track and play again, spin the jog wheel, but will not let you press track back again (if you do it freezes as before). the only way it works again is to let a track play for most of the song then all seems to be ok again.

It started doing this on just the one deck so i monitored this deck to see how often it would happen, but now both seem to do it, not every time i play on them but its become a lot more frequent,

Has anyone had this before? Or know why?

I thought it may be possibly the memory sticks read speed? i have three different types and its happened on all of them, but they are not really mega expensive ones,

Hi Snide, welcome to the forums.

In future, I will suggest you first search for answers - you indicate that you weren't sure if it'd already been covered... if you had searched, you'd know!

Second, please post in the appropriate forum. You posted to the ProDJ Gear forum but the DJS and Controllers forum is where CDJ400 topics are to be posted.

As for the problem, the first thing you should do is check that you are using the latest firmware - you can find a link to the page with the download and information on performing the upgrade here.

If you still have troubles after upgrading to the latest firmware, please let us know.

On the MP3s you're loading, are they VBR (variable bitrate) ?

Regrettably, I must say, I have been using the units for a couple months now, and the mp3 occasionally freezes the unit, once every other night. Be ready at any time to hit the power and restart.

Are you guys able to repeat the problem? IE - are you able to freeze the player with the same MP3 every time? That would point to the MP3 itself. If that's the case, email me and I'll get you a way to send me the MP3 so I can check the file for errors.

recently purchased 6 cdj400. 4 of them work just fine. and the other 2 have issues. now i am using serato with the cdj400. i have the updated firmware, and using the latest serato, not the beta. the issue i'm having is that sometimes the left cdj400 just freezes while its playing a song from serato. this happend like 6 times in the past 2 days. i thought the problem was with the actuall mp3 but it wasnt. i actually hooked up the other cdj to the same line and played that same song and it did not freeze. i dont know what i need to do. do i reinstall firmware?

I don't think it's the firmware or the unit itself but perhaps the setup or the software. I'd contact Serato and ask.

Both my players were Version 1.12...updated them to 1.20 and both are still freezing midway into things and I used Nero to burn the Data Disc of MP3's I got from beatport. Most my Disc's that go into the Players have 320kbps mp3's, some are VBR.

Ok Guys,

I have actually face the same freezing problems myself, i got the first batch cdj 400 in singapore. First time they replaced the len mechanism, still the problem came back.

Second time, sent the unit back to the service center, they replace the mother board, and again froze even more this time.

Third time, went down to make a big fuss, the customer manager promised to look into it. Finally after all the meeting with the rest of the engineers from jap and sing, They decided to replace me a new unit. And now my both is still good (no freezing anymore so far)
