Hello all.
I'm in the market for the CDJ400 to replace my old CDJ 800 (not MK2). I was wondering a few thing. 1) is it worth upgrading from the 800? 2) I heard there are some speed issue with larger usb drive. (how bad is this?) 3) Importantly.. can the CDJ switch between computer/cd without restarting? How long is the switch? I'm trying to use it as both cd/mp3 and computer mix, during a live session. Is this possible? Thanks HL |

1) It's almost impossible for us to say whether it will be "worth" you switching. Are the features better? Yes. Will there be an associated cost? Yes. Will you benefit from paying the money to have those features? I don't know.
2) Not that I know of -- and I've used a everything from 256MB to 32GB drives and they've all worked just fine. Where the slowdown occurs is having non-MP3s on your drive (extraneous files like .ini or whatever) or having a poorly organized file structure where you have more than 20 or so songs per folder. Large folders take longer to read. 3) Press the button to switch from USB to CD and it takes less than 6 seconds. Press the button again to switch back to the USB source and you wait as long as it takes to re-read the USB drive. Switching to PC is almost instant (but there is a slight delay in loading the audio in the player). The only possible downside to switching from PC source is some software titles are finicky and have been found to "forget" that the CDJ is one of its sound devices and thus won't reconnect it unless the software app is closed and restarted. Yes, it's possible to use both. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Pulse,
Thanks for the prompt and informative reply. The built in effect seem worth the fun. Another quick question that I forgot. Does the cdj read bpm from the mp3 file that contains that meta data? Thanks Again HL |

No - the CDJ reads the audio from the file to get the BPM, that way if you adjust the pitch, it adjusts the number you see in the BPM field of the display!

Thanks!!
I guess it does the calculation on the fly, thus why it is not as acurate. Scaling a known bpm base on the pitch % is much faster then recalculating the bpm base on the wave form. I love my pioneer dj toys.. and all the new toy they offered. But it is unfortunate that they cant include some simple function.. Guess we cant have everything. |
