my first post Smiler

Quick question.. since I only have one cdj-400 atm (plan on buying the second in a few weeks) I want to still play some tunes. I have installed all the drivers and software (DJS) and have the cdj controlling deck A (with the output of the cdj RCA's into line 1 of mixer).

Now, since I dont have a audio interface with 2 outs, I want to know (before I go out and buy one), when deck A is playing its sound comes out of output1 into my external mixer channel 1 but If I switch to deck B using the eject button, will the sound of deck A still be playing? so each upfader on my mixer controls the volume of its own deck? then of course after that mix is complete , i switch back to deck A with deck B still playing and so on..

I hope that makes sense Smiler Sounds like it will work almost the same as having two decks if the above is true.

You end up with the one output being the master out via the CDJ400. The down side is that you don't have any headphone monitor to mix with.

Thanks pulse for the quick reply.. Do you have a copy of the manual (DJS/CDJ-400)? If you look at page 4 on the manual here http://pioneer.jp/support/download/dj-e/cdj-400/guide.html the second setup for external mixer and one CDJ it shows the USB going into the laptop and a separate audio interface having each output going to its own channel on the mixer.. So deck A would use OUTPUT1 of fasttrack (TO channel 1 on mixer) and deck B OUTPUT2 of fastrack (TO channel 2 of mixer). No? Thats what I get from the diagram I just found.

The software outputs in one of two ways:

- External mixer; each virtual deck has a separate stereo pair to send to the mixer.
- Internal mixer; the software mixes the audio from each virtual deck and outputs one master signal, a second output is necessary for headphone monitoring in order to mix.

If you use a single output device (stereo is considered one output even though it has 2 channels), you can only output the master out or one of the channels.

You can use two separate soundcards to send the outputs as listed above, or one single soundcard which has multiple outs.

Thats what I was looking for. The audio interface I got was a numark DJ I/O , and it is dual output (output 1 Left/right and output2 left/right) but in DJS , It only shows one output. Also, the interface is asio, but it does not show up when I click the asio radio button but rather the cdj-400 only.

Thanks for your help btw!

I just noticed you are from Van Smiler

Yeah, you're not the only one having a problem with that Numark interface, another user recently posted that his I/O wasn't showing up with the ASIO drivers either. I've already forwarded it on to the engineers to see if they know why.

i could not for the life of me get the numark to work (even though it says asio is supported) so i grabbed a m-audio fasttrack and it works like it is suppsoed to.

Thanks for the info Pulse.

I heard back from the engineers but I'm not sure if I can officially say what the problem was - waiting to see if they want to post an official statement.
