...so you are pretty much saying that paying ALL that money for SSL is just to have organization for loading songs? I'll pass.
I've used Virtual DJ, I really really like what you can do with that program. Looping is very very easy, great little effects like the BeatGrid...the only thing I have yet to figure out is setting the software up so I can set CUE points, loops, etc and hear what I am doing from deck B in my headphones and NOT out the main so everyone else can hear what I am doing. What do you think of VirtualDJ vs Sereto, Pulse? |

I honestly love the simplicity of Serato and the frequency-coloured waveform is tight.
I've used a lot of software apps in testing and comparison and truly, if I had to pick one program to DJ from, it would be Serato. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

So my next question would have to be are there any software solutions that let the CDJ-400 work in a native state (DJS possibly?)
Any word on Serato picking back up with the CDJ-400 yet, I searched over on the Serato forums and really haven't been able to pick up much about it. |

Serato and DJS are currently the only applications which support native mode control. From what I understand a couple of other software companies are working with Pioneer on adapting their software to support the CDJ400 natively for time and track information display on the player.

Couldn't you just hook up Serato the same way you would an 800 (without the usb)? What is the advantage to using the usb? Isn't true you still need the Serato box and CD's? Does the software function differently? |

You still need the Serato box because Serato uses that as their dongle to control the software - all audio from the application is output through their device.
Using the CDJ400 you DO NOT need the CDs! Timecode is built-in to the players. The software works in the same way, you'll just find it easier because not only can you navigate and load songs directly from the player but the time and track information is also in the CDJ400's display! Intressting, since Version 1.81 is out now. But there is nothing mentioned on the CDJ-400 just: "The latest version is Scratch LIVE 1.8.1, updates in this version include: * Denon HC 4500 native support * Denon HD 2500 native support * Numark DMC2 native support * Bug Fixes and performance improvements "
Seems Pioneer made some big promisses which don't work out that easy. I mean we almost have june now and i have my players since december and still there isn't a NATIVE working way with Serato |

Daiko - I tested it out with two players and it DOES WORK. It just doesn't work in ALL scenarios and Serato is taking the precaution of testing it further before making it a full public release.
You see how they don't blame anyone? They're "working closely with Pioneer to resolve the problem". So complain all you want or go get on the Beta team over at Scratchlive.net and help out. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist |

Pulse,
What usb hub did you use and did you connect a external hard drive to it also? Would it be better to just connect the 400's to a hub and the drive to the computer? |

Any hub will do - I have a 4-port hub which has the option of powered / non-powered, but it should work either way. The only time you need to power a hub is if you're running multiple devices which draw power from the USB source.

Can't. Sorry, Serato has suspended support for the CDJ400 because they're still working out a couple of issues.

Quote From Serato:
I'd like to say that we have made progress on getting a working CDJ-400 release of Scratch LIVE. This will require a firmware update for the CDJ-400 so we can't promise a release date for it. We will try and get a beta version out with support as soon as possible after the firmware update is available. Thanks, James Now we wait for Pioneer to update the firm where?? |

As I said in another thread, when we hear anything, we'll post it. Pioneer doesn't release beta versions of drivers to the public but when there is a new update it will be here first.
