Hi guys, i know hardly anything about DJS so i just have a few questions regarding what i think it might do and if that caters to my needs!
Basically,ALL i'm loking for (no more no less) is a music libry software which i can hook up to my cdj 400's and just be able type in the name of a song and assign it to whichever deck i want! What i dont want is a software that turns my cdj's into midi controllers (like Virtual Dj) cuz that just takes all the fun out of it! I Guess i'm kinda looking for a search software like the one in virtual dj which makes finding tracks easy by simply just typing in the name of the song or artist but still allows my decks to function the way they do now! I do realise that i could just hook up my hard-drive straight into one of my cdj's but its quite hard to remember exactly where every track is stored! thanks in advance for any responses |

You can't really "assign" songs to the CDJ400's; when you're using software with the CDJ400's, they're acting as controllers for the software. Button presses and movements of the jog are translated into commands of software functions. If you use an app like DJS or VDJ, you press play on the player and it starts the software playback. If you want name display in the players, you need HID support (native mode) and only a handful of the software apps currently feature it whereas almost all will support MIDI (but it doesn't have display support).

Im going to word this a little different,
im looking at DJS with a view to simply using it as the rekord box all i want is to hook up the library on my pc to my cdj400's i don't like nor want the midi functionality as all i want is to be able to use the decks in a normal mode like i would if i were playing from cds or usb sticks. if it is capable then i will quite gladly spend the dosh and pay for it or is there another software i should be looking at? |

Munchy,
As noted above, the CDJ400 doesn't operate like the CDJ900 or 2000 in that you can use the computer as a "source". The 400 will only connect to the computer as a controller. If you want to play from the decks as if you were using a CD or USB source, that's what you need to do. But I will point out that if you're using it with a software like VirtualDJ, it DOES operate the same way as if you were using a CD or USB source... just with the software on the computer actually driving the audio. Ok thanks pulse im going to keep digging into this one and i hope you dont mind so please excuse the stupid questions while i try to get this clear in my nut
if i use the software and put the 400's in pc mode i can browse my pc from the decks and play the music as if it were loaded by usb/cd and the decks would have the full 100 percent control of the decks and not loose any of the functionallity/ from what i have seen with these softwares they are all still assignable and not everything is catered for unless im missing something. |

The ONLY thing you lose from the players is the on-board effects but if the software offers any effects, you can assign the buttons to engage and use those effects instead.

You can always use another channel on your mixer and use the headphone output from your computer using an rca cable input on your mixer. This has always worked well with me.
