PIONEER LIVENS DJ PERFORMANCES WITH TWO NEW DJ MACHINES

NAMM Booth #211B (January 16, 2007) – Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. Professional Sound and Visual Division, the leader in Pro DJ products and the innovator of the CD turntable, today unveiled the latest addition to its family of DJ compact disc players, the MEP-7000, Professional Multi-Entertainment Player and the SEP-C1, Professional Software Entertainment Controller. Pioneer’s DJ CD players have established a worldwide reputation for their superior performance for both professional and amateur DJs, continuing to strengthen their status as an industry standard.

“Both the MEP-7000 and SEP-C1 correspond to the trend of laptops being utilized by professional DJs,” said Matt Dever, vice president for Pioneer’s Professional Sound and Visual Division. “Recent developments have changed the way mobile and club DJs catalog and play their music. No longer are they carrying crates of vinyl or even books of CDs full of music. Laptops, USB flash media and hard drives are fast becoming the commonplace in the DJ rig.”

The MEP-7000 is a compact, easy-to-transport Professional Multi-Entertainment Player inheriting the basic functions and operability of the popular Pioneer CDJ- series turntables. In addition to playback of conventional music from CD/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM discs, the MEP-7000 enable users to play MP3/AAC files stored on various memory media formats. The dual-player is extremely convenient for DJs performing in an environment where space dedicated for the jock is limited and flexible media playback is a must, such as a café or bar where various parties or events are held. The system also enables DJs to easily create and set up pre-programmed play lists for “gigs” at such times as a dinner hour set or a break.

The SEP-C1 Professional Software Entertainment Controller is a dual MP3 music controller which allows the user to manage and control playback of audio files stored on a PC. It emulates the full-scale DJ performance of the CDJ series operability without the need of a mouse or keyboard.

Can one plug an iPod straight into it and access the iPod's contents from the Pioneer's screen?

DJS is a Windows only application but the player will work with Mac for any MIDI capable application or Serato (when released). It will also work as an ASIO sound device.

Yep, this should not be a problem. Perhaps this picture shows.... Sorry bu I don't know how to resize the image.... The language on the screen of the iPod is dutch and is the screen telling you it's connected. The MEP can read tracks from it and also shows the album art... if added to the iPod.

Questions:

1) Will the MEP-7000 play Apple Lossless files? (crosses fingers)

2) Are there any search options? Or are you limited to browsing and scrolling through lists? What are the different browsing catagories (track, artist, album, BPM, key, genre, etc?)

3) Does the album art feature work with all file types? Does it just work with iPods?

4) Does the iPod have to be formatted FAT32? Or will the MEP-7000 read HFS+?

Thanks!!!

1) The MEP supports playback for:
- CD Audio
- MP3
- AAC
- CD+G

2) Searching by anything other than the filename is only available with one of those crazy Apple products (where you can sort by artist, title, genre, or playlist). You could alternately use a keyboard on one of the USB ports to "key search" your files in the current folder.

3) Any file with ID3 information carrying the album artwork is supported.

4) Currently only FAT32 (Windows) formatted devices work with the MEP and CDJ400 but Pioneer is working hard on getting HFS+ working in time for the MEP's release (CDJ400 coming soon as a firmware update).

Nice---this is similar to Numark D2, Cortex, and Denon HD2500 or am I missing something here?

Either way Pioneer has done a better job in my OPN.

Are these the only products that Pioneer will have press releases on during NAMM?

If I buy the SEP-C1 for MIDI software control, but in a future, want to add-upgrade adding only the DISK DRIVES (mep 7000?), Can I purchase only the disk drives unit alone (without the software/controller)?

Yea brother, looks like a Numark D2 Director on steroids. Wink

I'll be at NAMM in L.A. tomorrow and will be sure to shoot some pics of these items and other gear for you all.

I definitely want to toy with these two new-comers.

So I can connect the SEP-C1 up to my PC then and control DJ software. Is there support for Traktor or Deckadance?

Same, but BETTER! Big Grin

Currently the plan is to only offer the MEP OR the SEP but no upgrade to add the drive unit later. We're trying hard to convince Pioneer to have this as an option.

Only DJS and Serato are supported for native mode but Pioneer is working with other manufacturers to get the integration. You could use MIDI in the meantime.
