Guys,
Having trouble figuring out how to cue tracks for pre-listening w/ Ableton, can anyone help on how I would set this up? I have a Focusrite Saffire running all output pairs to the DJM-800. So it completely fills up Channels 1~4 on the mixer. It also has a SPDIF Output as well that isn't being used. My problem is, how can I cue tracks now? If I'm playing a tune in Channel 1 of the mixer, I can't cue Channel 2 because cueing in Ableton requires routing to a seperate output... The only way I can see getting around this is using my Headphones with the Digital Out, but I'm not sure if thats possible? Any Ideas? |

It's EAAASY ... but I can't do it now cuz I'll walk you through it with screenshots once I've got everything re-connected (been working on another project here so gear's all over the place).

I'm not sure if I'm following you on the difficulty here. The way you have it set up now you can cue just like you would with vinyl or CDs. Just trigger the track and listen to it via Cue on the DJM and ignore the cue possibilities within Live.
otherwise if you must use the cue in Live, then assign cue to an out on your soundcard (one of the channels of your choice) and route that into the DJM on one of the channels (digital in is a good choice because if you aren't using that particular DJM channel one during your active mix at the time, then you could switch over to hear the cued up tracks you want to pre-listen to. Alternatively (or at the same time), you can assign the cue buttons on the DJM to switch the output to cues within the Live session tracks. BUT you are still left with the problem of having that audio come through that particular mixer channel because the DJM cannot diferentiate between something that is meant to be cued from Live vs. regular audio output like Live can. I'll be interested to see if Pulse has a different take on how this can be accomplished. rob. |
