Channel 1 - Cdj 1000.
Channel 2 - Ableton Midi.
Channel 3 - Ableton Midi.
Channel 4 - Cdj 1000.

Midi cord connecting Edirol Fa 66 to Djm 600.
Ableton connected to Edirol through firewire.

Concern - i only want to assign channels on djm but i want the effects from the mixer of DJM and not ableton. And if there is a way i can use effects on ableton too. Like.. i wanted to use the color effects and beat effects on all the channels on the djm 800 and also use the channels 2 and 3 on Ableton Live. Also use some effects from the ableton on all 4 channels.

thanx for your reply mate. Appreciate it.

Are you planning on returning the audio from Ableton anywhere? If not, then no, you can't use the effects on the Ableton audio and the color effects can only be applied to the CDJ audio on CH1/4.

Check within the 410 control panel module that MIDI is enabled. If it turns out it is, use the MIDI Monitor application to ensure the signal is being received properly.

So the problem could be with the drivers and 10.5.4. Unfortunately I've boxed up my 410 (getting ready to move) so I can't test it out.

It should work just fine if you follow the instructions. I'll see if I can create a v7 template for those who are now updated.

So I read the guide, thanks for that, very helpful. I am a little hung up though. I have used the mixer in the audio mode. I want to use it purely midi, and then just send the ableton main out to the speakers. Is their really no way to headphone cue? kind of a deal breaker there. I think it would be cool to be midi only with the mixer, and hence able to record all the automation, but can't really use it as a performance tool without a cue. Ultimately thinking an a&h 1 or 2D is the way to go then....still like the 800 audio anyway? any thoughts?

You CAN do headphone cueing in Ableton, it just takes a bit more work to get going, especially if you're using the DJM800 for ALL MIDI.

If you post a description of exactly how you've got it all setup, I can help you out.

HI!!

I am new at this forum so first of all...hi to everyone!!!

I just bought myself the DJM 800 and want to use it with LIVE 7. Unfortunately I know very less about inputs/outputs. So I really would need the basics.

I only want to use the DJM 800 with LIVE. No turntables or Pioneer CD Players used. I have no idea how I can connect everything together. I know how I can use MIDI and manually assign each knob form the DJM 800 to any LIVE 7 knobs, but thats about it. I use the Audio Kontrol Soundcard with 4 outputs.

My Questions:
Can I use all the effect on the DJM 800 with LIVE?
How can I route inputs/outputs to the DJM 800 from LIVE??
I cant route audio from LIVE into DJM 800 and then use the master out which goes into a normal amp. Any ideas??

I have read your manual but I really dont understand it. Very Sorry.

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!
Thanks,

Hubi

Hubi,

1) Yes, you can use the effects from the DJM800 for AUDIO which is routed through the mixer. You can either use it as the out-point before the PA or you can use the mixer as a return device (or AUX loop unit) to have audio from Ableton effected by the DJM800 and returned to Ableton.

2) To route the outputs, you say your soundcard has 4 outs - chances are that's 2 stereo pair (or possibly 1 stereo pair + 1 digital out) so really, you're limited in your routing. It's up to you, either mixing the audio within Ableton and outputting a master signal or using the DJM800 to handle audio.

3) Yes you can, I go over all the scenarios in my guide.

I'm not sure what elements you're not understanding, it's really quite simple between the Ableton user manual and my guide, you should be able to get things going.

Hi Pulse,

first of all thank you very much for your quick reply. Ok, somethings did not make sense...sorry!

What do you mean by "use it as the out-point before the PA or you can use the mixer as a return device"??

I did understand what you meant by "either mixing the audio within Ableton and outputting a master signal" but how can I use the DJM800 to handle audio? I am going to buy myself a sound card with 8 stereo pair outputs.

Also can I use the DJM 800 as a MIDI Controller and an audio devise??

Thank you Pulse for your help!!!

You certainly can but you need to decide how to split the load for audio and MIDI. Because the mixer is "audio first", if you had any audio running through channel 1 but also had channel 1's EQ knobs assigned to parameters in the software, if you adjust those knobs, not only will they send MIDI signal but the audio on that channel will be altered.

If you run 2 channels of MIDI control and 2 channels of audio, you have a decent split and can still manipulate things within software, although I find even with the plethora of control the DJM800 offers, I'd still want a secondary controller for triggers and other adjustments.

If you wanted to use the DJM800 as an "insert" device (in other words, using 1 channel of the mixer to send audio on which to use the effects), you end up creating a send/return for a channel of audio and returning the master output signal from the mixer back into the computer. This would essentially turn your mixer into an effects unit for Ableton which you could assign to any channel, all the while using the other 3 channels as strict MIDI control. In this mode you'd have to output the master signal from the soundcard to your PA instead of via the mixer (unless you wanted the master audio to go out via the DJM800 without the send/return option via the software).

Hi Pulse!!!

Ok, I finally managed the sound going in to the DJM 800, thanks to you!!! Really pleased...

Ok, I have one final question for you.
If I buy myself a new soundcard, lets say with 8 audio outputs can I use all four channels to control audio from LIVE (say I use four channels in LIVE)?? Also, I only can use one master output in LIVE, or? How do I configure more outputs so I can control all the other channels for LIVE to the DJM 800??

Hope that makes sense and after you (hopefully) can answer these questions I am ready to work!!

Thanks you so so much for your help!
Greets,
Hubi
